reminders
today was a long day. as is every other day. but today is saturday, and it's a weekend, therefore, i should be relaxed and refreshed after a long day of rest. but i'm a busy person, so i don't have the opportunity to sleep in as much as i used to.
anywho, i stayed up 'til 3:30 blogging about my frustrations with my life. i planned to wake up early and do some packing before ultimate, but i didn't get out of bed until 8:40 or so, and practice was at 10. so i got up, got ready, mentally prepared myself for the day, and went to practice.
today was a gorgeous day to be outside. it was a bit gusty at times, but the sun was out, there were few clouds in the sky, and the temperatures were a bit cooler than what we've had in boston over the past week. a great day to play ultimate. last night i wasn't looking forward to practice because i feel that i'm so behind and out of shape and i'm holding the team back. i'm not where i should be physically, which, in turn, causes me to second-guess myself. that's why i was frustrated about club ultimate last night. today's practice reminded me of why i play ultimate: because it's fun and the people are nice. i ran hard, and did what was told, and even though i'm out of shape, i felt good about practice. everyone was encouraging each other and helping each other that it made me want to work harder to get better for the season. it was good to leave practice feeling good about myself and knowing that i can only improve.
after practice, i went to work at fenway. and that was a bummer. i think i have a sign only visible to stupid customers that says: i am here to help you, stupid customers. that basically sums up the afternoon at fenway.
post-fenway was also good: anne fecko and i went to eat dinner at anna's taqueria on beacon street. yum. all i can say is super steak burrito and chips and salsa. then we came back to my apartment and i made us berry smoothies. we invited jeff to join us (because he doesn't have any food and is low on funds), and we had a little pa get-together. it was fun, and we were able to finish most of the frozen fruit and sherbert that's been in my freezer for a month or so. hooray for friends and smoothies.
when jeff and anne left, i started to clean and pack again. i've got 95% of my clothes packed, and all i have to do tomorrow is clean my desk and finish packing up my stuff from the kitchen, and then i'm ready to move for the third and final time this summer. hooray for that. no more moving after monday for nine months. nine whole months. thank goodness. it's a good thing i took the whole packing idea in parts this time around. makes it seem that much easier, even though i didn't unload much this summer. just the idea of packing gives me a bad taste in my mouth.
well, that's all for tonight. i want to thank michael for chatting with me last night and listening to me vent about my mid-college crisis. i hope i'll be okay after all this.
one step at a time.

mid-college crisis
i've past the official halfway point of college, and i'm on the horizon of the third year of school....and i've reached a mid-college crisis. i'm pessimistic and i've set high expectations for myself knowing that i will fall far short of them. i have the attitude that i will not reach my goals and that i won't be anywhere when i graduate from college.
last night i realized that i've set myself up for a repeat of junior year of high school. that year, i had five honors classes, three varsity sports, class council, and math team. i didn't do well in academics or athletics because i spread myself thin. my dad was there to remind me that i had to set my priorities straight because it wasn't fair to any of my commitments that i wasn't in it 100 percent. and i agreed with him, but i refused to give up anything because i had committed myself to each activity and i was going to see it through no matter what it took. somehow, i made it through junior year without hurting myself too much, and i decided that senior year was going to be the recovery year. and it was. my favorite year in high school was senior year because for the first time, i enjoyed myself. i did things that i wanted to do and i did them well. i had time to myself even though i was somewhat busy, and i lived everyday of senior year as it was my last day. what a year.
now, i'm two years into college, and i've got a number of things under my belt: classes, ultimate, and three part-time jobs. i think i'm going to work in the orientation office this year and familiarize myself with the publication programs that we use to create our brochures, handbooks, and pamphlets. i will continue working at the sports museum on fridays and weekends (when applicable), and during the bruins' and celtics' home games at the silent auctions, and i will work at the souvenir store through the end of the season and sporatically throughout the rest of the semester until baseball starts up again. basically, it'll be a test of prioritization. we'll see if i've really learned how to manage my time, and if i know when it's time to crack down and hit those books. i'm playing club ultimate this fall, which also takes away my 'me' time, and i'm going to have to learn to deal with that because i've committed myself to brute squad. i'll also co-captain the ozone pilots this year with rosie, ben, jasper, and steve, which will be quite interesting. as long as i stay focused and on-task and i don't allow any outside distractions, i should be okay. but we all know that that scenario is the 'ideal' one, and not the 'real' one. well, time will tell.
i'm frustrated knowing that this is my third year of college, and i have yet to do anything career-related. i don't think i should get into this now because i could possibly be up all night writing about it. and i think the only thing that's holding me back from getting started is myself. i want to do so many things, but i'm not willing to sacrifice some of them to do others. and until i figure out a way to do it or to sacrifice some of the things i'm doing, i really won't get anywhere. hooray for decision-making and prioritizing.
anywho, that's the vent for tonight; i've got to get some sleep before brute squad practice at 10, and work at fenway following that. then i come back to the apartment to pack more.
moving sucks.

where'd the week go?
it's almost friday here in boston. friday. wow. another week has sped by and it only means that the beginning of school is that much closer. yikes.
anywho, i just thought i'd write whatever comes out of my fingers. first things first, mike left boston this afternoon for good. he's off to madison this weekend for his mom's birthday, and then he's off to philly and upenn and grad school. it's been an interesting summer hanging out with him, but i had a great time, and i wouldn't have traded it for anything else. it was sad to see him go because he was the last one of the ozone pilots class of 2003 to move out of boston. our fearless captain, my calculus tutor, and a great friend to me....it's been an unbelievable two years, and i can't believe it's gone. i hate saying goodbyes because i can't keep myself from crying. it's not like i'll never see him again, but it does mean that i won't see him everyday anymore. it's just weird when you've seen this person nearly everyday for the past two years and then all of a sudden, he's gone. he's not there when i need/want a hug or a smile, or to give me a comforting word or two to let me know that i'm doing okay. best friends are really hard to say goodbye to, that's all. although, i'm really glad that he came back to boston to hang out for a couple of days before leaving for good. we hung out for the last couple of nights: watched monsters, inc. and ate ice cream on tuesday night, and dinner with kris kelly in the north end at la familia giorgios on wednesday night; it was a lot of fun, and it was a great way to end the summer with him. yay for the summer.
mike's departure also officially releases him from the helm of the ozone pilots. i know he was relieved of his duties in may when he graduated, but he was still around, and he kept things in order. it's kind of scary because the ozone pilots are now officially in our hands. we're the ones who have to send in bids for tourneys, dish out the money for tourneys, go to meetings for club sports, talk with the perd advisors to get vans so that we can go to tourneys....the whole nine yards. rosie, ben, steve, jasper, and i are the leaders of this year's ozone pilots, and it looks to be a crazy ride. i know it's going to be weird when the gang show up for a "reunion" practice in a couple of weeks and there's no pete, mike, or tom there to keep us in line....yeah, i think i'm not going to think about that until it happens. i know we'll be okay, but i don't think i'm ready for the leadership role just yet.
now it's friday, and the end of another week is here. there are many things to do this weekend for next week that i really don't know where i'm going to start. maybe i'll start packing tomorrow night after work at fenway. we'll see.
a moose in a can and a swiss army knife. michael, thank you.

back in boston
yups, i'm back in boston after a brief stay in the islands. all in all it was a great trip home: i saw friends i hadn't seen in a couple of years (krystal, no'eau, and sam), friends that i see during the school year (jenny choy), and friends i usually see when i'm home during the summer (ko). we were able to catch up on the times of the past school year, and it was really really really really good to talk with them again. yay for friends at home.
only downside to the trip home was the lack of time i spent with my family. for those of you who don't know, my family is busy all year. i have four siblings: lori (17), brad (16), miki (15), and traci (12). they all play sports all year long, whether it's volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, or canoe paddling. to get to the point....last week was the beginning of fall varsity sports practices. lori was at two-a-days for varsity volleyball, brad was at football camp, my dad was coaching at football camp, and miki was helping out with camera footage for team meetings at football camp. so, that left me with traci. and she didn't really want to go out with me; she wanted to stay home and do whatever she usually does when she's home alone. it was very lonely at times, and i was a little bummed that i didn't get to talk with my siblings or my dad about home and how things have been over the past eight months. but that's what happens when my family is constantly in motion. the only time they stop moving is to sleep, and well, that doesn't work well for interaction.
i guess i was really bummed that we didn't have "family time" this week when i cried while waiting at the gate at the airport. i felt sad because we didn't have time to just hang out and be a family. everyone was so busy with their individual activities that it didn't really leave time to hang out. and there are those family "moments" where i see from which i get my weirdness. and those times make me laugh because i can see that we're still a family no matter how busy we are. my family is my world. if you talk to my best friends here in boston, all i do is talk about the successes my sisters and brother make in sports and in school. i talk about how much they've changed since i was last home, and the little things about them that haven't changed. i'm so proud of their accomplishments because they've done so much better than i did in high school, both academically and athletically. i enjoy watching their games because it gives me the opportunity to see how much they've improved over the years. i love my family. and i hope that everyone loves their own family. it's the one thing i can count on no matter what happens. yay for my family.
that was my blog about home. here's the rest on my happenings since returning to boston:
i got back on saturday afternoon, unpacked, sat around doing nothing, and then decided to get some dinner at 8:30. i went over to cpk for some salad, pizza, and key lime pie....that was a nice treat for myself since i hadn't eaten since dinner with my grandparents at big city diner on friday night. then i went to hang out with mike, rosie, and kris....but when i arrived, kris and rosie were sleeping, and mike was watching "old school." i watched the end of it and went to sleep.
sunday was spent doing what i usually do....playing ultimate. it was the second day of the summer league tourney, and we played in division 2 of the 5/2 league. we played four games and won four games yesterday, which made us division 2 champs. hooray for the ozone pilots! it was a nice day for ultimate: cool and overcast with a slight breeze, and the sun came out at the end of the day, but it wasn't too harsh. it was a good way to end a great summer of ultimate. after the tourney, i helped mike pack up the rest of his stuff (he's moving into his apartment in philly as i write this) and we watched "old school" and ate some chicken sandwiches from wing it. it was a pretty calm night, and i got to catch up on the sleep i missed.
today, i was in the office doing the orientation thing. we're hitting another transition point: international students are arriving, and some sapa staff are leaving to do the ra thing or the study abroad thing. summer is winding down, and we're anticipating the classes in the fall....however, before we can anticipate class, we have to get through the next two weeks. this week is the orientation for international students, and next week is the sapa staff move on monday, session 8 on thursday and friday, parents' convocation on sunday, and students' matriculation on monday. it's going to be a crazy two weeks. but we'll get through it like we've done all summer. yay for the sapas.
tonight, i started packing (again) for the final move of the summer. i returned the borrowed furniture (thanks caila, giovanna, and anne fecko), packed up the will-not-use-in-the-next-week dishes and appliances, and started packing the little things that could fit into boxes that were already a little packed. my room is slowly returning to its state when i first moved in, and it's a good thing that i'm starting now because this weekend will be busy with orientation and fenway work, not to mention brute squad practice. yeah, i guess i really didn't think things through when i got myself involved with a lot of things this summer. my bad.
well, i guess that's it for now. time to eat some ice cream and read more of the ersatz elevator and then sleep.
time to clear out the freezer.

home does not equal rest
for some odd reason, i've been waking up earlier than usual. i haven't slept past 8:00 until this morning (when i woke up at 9:30), and i'm usually in bed around midnight. weird.
i've managed to keep myself pretty busy while home....shopping, driving around, hanging out....it's nice. on tuesday, i hung out with jenny choy (yay jenny), and we went to riggers, ala moana, and ward center. we picked up spam musubis and garlic chicken from mitsuken at 9:15 a.m., and then we went over to riggers to pick up more hawaiian print shorts. yay for new shorts. after that, we went down to ward center and browsed around for a bit, before going over to ala moana. i did a lot of shopping at ala moana: i bought a new duffel bag/rolling suitcase made by da kine and four new blouses from old navy. we browsed through ala moana, stopping at vans, gap, the disney store, wet seal, sketchers, island snow, neiman marcus (we played the "guess how much this thing costs"), the apple store (where i sent mike an e-mail), macy's, hilo hattie, and finally, old navy. we drove back over to ward center after all that browsing, and ate lunch at kaka'ako kitchen. i had hamburger steak....that was so 'ono! after lunch, i dropped jenny off at her house, and then i went home to pick up my ultimate stuff and drove back down to ala moana beach park and played pickup from 6:00-7:30 p.m. it was fun to play ultimate right across the street from the beach, and to see the sunset over the wai'anae mountain range. so lucky to live in hawai'i. after pickup, i raced home to meet ko for dinner (we ate leftovers from the family dinner on saturday) and we hung out at the house, watched "the oc" (a new tv show on fox that lori and ko enjoy....i hadn't seen it until last night), and caught up on life. krystal, joanna, and sam were supposed to join us, but there was a big communication mix-up, so they didn't join us. ko left around 11:00 (he's working at the uh bookstore), and i watched oprah (it's on late night tv here in hawai'i) and fell asleep waiting for miki to come home from volcanoes (last night was all ages night).
this morning, i woke up at 9:30 and left the house around 10:00 to start on my to-do list. first, i went to sam's club to pick up some goodies, then i went over to the swap meet to pick up some gifts and other things. then i went up to kamehameha to drop off said goodies to my sisters so they have something to munch on while helping out at football camp. yay for being a nice sister. i ended up staying there to watch lori's tryout/practice; they scrimmaged corona del mar high school from orange county, california. corona del mar is in town to play in the 'iolani invitational tournament this week. lori played well even though she had to adjust to the setting of her teammates. i hope they do well this season; it would be sweet for her to win a state championship in volleyball. sorry, back to my story. i left kamehameha around 5:00, came home, and packed my new bag with my clothes and such. i chatted with mike online for a bit, and then went out to eat ramen at rai rai ramen on kapahulu avenue. i had chicken katsu curry ramen and gyoza....that was sooooo good. after dinner, i went over to kahala mall to get a frappuccino from chris at starbucks, and i picked up two pairs of jeans from the gap (they were on sale). i guess this is my "back to school" shopping. i then visited my uncles who i play volleyball with when i'm at home. we talked for a couple of hours, and then i came home.
i'm pooped, but i figured that i should write something even though no one reads this. it's really nice to document my day using a computer rather than writing. i don't think my hands would be able to write all this in one sitting. i have to be at kamehameha at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow to help out with the football scrimmage. i'm not sure what it entails, but i'm home to help, so that's what i'm doing. i also plan to visit no'eau at his beach stand tomorrow, so that's another thing on my to-do list. oh, and that reminds me....i need to drop off the film at long's for 24-hour processing before i return to boston. oh my, this is cutting it close. but it'll get done. and i have to go back to riggers to pick up another pair of shorts. okay, i wrote it all down.
now it's time to shower and sleep. tomorrow's an early day, and it's my last full day at home. gotta get things done.
shopping is dangerous.

i've managed to keep myself pretty busy while home....shopping, driving around, hanging out....it's nice. on tuesday, i hung out with jenny choy (yay jenny), and we went to riggers, ala moana, and ward center. we picked up spam musubis and garlic chicken from mitsuken at 9:15 a.m., and then we went over to riggers to pick up more hawaiian print shorts. yay for new shorts. after that, we went down to ward center and browsed around for a bit, before going over to ala moana. i did a lot of shopping at ala moana: i bought a new duffel bag/rolling suitcase made by da kine and four new blouses from old navy. we browsed through ala moana, stopping at vans, gap, the disney store, wet seal, sketchers, island snow, neiman marcus (we played the "guess how much this thing costs"), the apple store (where i sent mike an e-mail), macy's, hilo hattie, and finally, old navy. we drove back over to ward center after all that browsing, and ate lunch at kaka'ako kitchen. i had hamburger steak....that was so 'ono! after lunch, i dropped jenny off at her house, and then i went home to pick up my ultimate stuff and drove back down to ala moana beach park and played pickup from 6:00-7:30 p.m. it was fun to play ultimate right across the street from the beach, and to see the sunset over the wai'anae mountain range. so lucky to live in hawai'i. after pickup, i raced home to meet ko for dinner (we ate leftovers from the family dinner on saturday) and we hung out at the house, watched "the oc" (a new tv show on fox that lori and ko enjoy....i hadn't seen it until last night), and caught up on life. krystal, joanna, and sam were supposed to join us, but there was a big communication mix-up, so they didn't join us. ko left around 11:00 (he's working at the uh bookstore), and i watched oprah (it's on late night tv here in hawai'i) and fell asleep waiting for miki to come home from volcanoes (last night was all ages night).
this morning, i woke up at 9:30 and left the house around 10:00 to start on my to-do list. first, i went to sam's club to pick up some goodies, then i went over to the swap meet to pick up some gifts and other things. then i went up to kamehameha to drop off said goodies to my sisters so they have something to munch on while helping out at football camp. yay for being a nice sister. i ended up staying there to watch lori's tryout/practice; they scrimmaged corona del mar high school from orange county, california. corona del mar is in town to play in the 'iolani invitational tournament this week. lori played well even though she had to adjust to the setting of her teammates. i hope they do well this season; it would be sweet for her to win a state championship in volleyball. sorry, back to my story. i left kamehameha around 5:00, came home, and packed my new bag with my clothes and such. i chatted with mike online for a bit, and then went out to eat ramen at rai rai ramen on kapahulu avenue. i had chicken katsu curry ramen and gyoza....that was sooooo good. after dinner, i went over to kahala mall to get a frappuccino from chris at starbucks, and i picked up two pairs of jeans from the gap (they were on sale). i guess this is my "back to school" shopping. i then visited my uncles who i play volleyball with when i'm at home. we talked for a couple of hours, and then i came home.
i'm pooped, but i figured that i should write something even though no one reads this. it's really nice to document my day using a computer rather than writing. i don't think my hands would be able to write all this in one sitting. i have to be at kamehameha at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow to help out with the football scrimmage. i'm not sure what it entails, but i'm home to help, so that's what i'm doing. i also plan to visit no'eau at his beach stand tomorrow, so that's another thing on my to-do list. oh, and that reminds me....i need to drop off the film at long's for 24-hour processing before i return to boston. oh my, this is cutting it close. but it'll get done. and i have to go back to riggers to pick up another pair of shorts. okay, i wrote it all down.
now it's time to shower and sleep. tomorrow's an early day, and it's my last full day at home. gotta get things done.
shopping is dangerous.

home is nice
i like being in my own house because i know where everything is and how the house works. i like having an abundance of food and drinks to consume, and just being able to relax in a familiar environment. hooray for being home.
it's monday night already, and i've actually done quite a bit for wanting to sleep but fighting it off. yesterday, my dad took my sisters and i to brunch (yay for the omelette bar), and then my dad and i went to miki's basketball game. she's very very very very good, and her team won by 29 points. after the game, we came home, and i watched movies on tv with my sisters all afternoon. we watched "she's all that" and "clueless" because they were playing on usa, and we basically hung out while my dad and brother went to opening meetings for football camp.
at 6:30 p.m. we met my grandparents and aunt, uncle, and little cousin for dinner at suzuki's restaurant. it's a really great japanese restaurant in kaimuki, and i enjoy the sushi that they have there. so, i ate a lot of sushi for dinner, and my grandpa asked me a lot of questions about my summer and my future. the usual. after dinner, i dropped lori and traci at home, and miki and i went to long's (similar to a cvs, but a whole lot better) to pick up some things for the week. tomorrow night, my dad's taking us school supply shopping....hooray for dad getting my school supplies (i know, i know, i'm spoiled....boo for me). then we came home and watched more tv. i fell asleep before the ten o'clock news. so sad; i can't even make it past ten o'clock anymore.
this morning, i woke up at 6:30 a.m. to take traci to kamehameha's middle school orientation. i spent the day on campus visiting with former teachers and advisors, and updating them on my life in boston. it was really nice to see them, and really convenient as well; now i won't have to do it later in the week. after traci's orientation, she and i picked up lunch at teddy's burgers in kapahulu, and came home to rest, watch more tv, and nap. i took a nap, which was very nice, and then did some of the chores around the house. traci and i met my grandparents and cousin at zippy's for dinner at 6:30 p.m. and came home to just veg. i called a couple of friends to make plans for tomorrow night and wednesday night, and i watched "beyond paradise" with my sisters. i'm just too tired to do anything else tonight, so it didn't make sense for me to go out. so, tomorrow, i'm going to have krystal, sam, joanna, and ko over for dinner and to hang out. we have a lot of leftovers and other food in our fridge and no one's home to eat it this week except for traci and me. and we're not capable of eating all of the food. hooray for friends coming to visit and eat with me.
well, i'm falling asleep at the computer (what's new about that), so it's time for me to call this a blog.
sleep is good.

home in the islands
this post is brought to you today by united airlines, the airline carrier that brought me home to hawai'i yesterday afternoon.
yes, i'm home in the islands. i arrived here yesterday afternoon at 2:31 p.m. (HST) i slept most of the way over, so i really don't know if i missed much except for the two movies. no big deal. anywho, my dad and miki picked me up from the airport and we came home to a full house....for only a few minutes. as soon as we got home, brad, miki, and traci waxed up their surfboards, and lori dropped them off at the beach. so, i was in a relatively quiet house for a couple of hours. it was nice. my siblings have been surfing a lot this summer, and i'm glad that they get to do whatever they want during their time off. i wish i had it that way when i was growing up, but i'm the oldest, and i can't do much about it.
last night, my family had a dinner for my mom's birthday. my dad's friends and their families brought over food, and while we ate, we watched "bringing down the house." it was a funny movie, and we had a good time. lori and i made our stops at other parties before we returned home to eat, but since she didn't want to stay, she dragged me along to be her reason not to stay. it was a lot of fun. after everyone left, brad, miki, and i went to blockbuster to rent "25th hour" and to buy "beyond paradise," an independent hawaii film made in 1999.
i fell asleep to "25th hour" but i did find a bed to sleep in around 1:15 this morning. since miki took over my room, i went upstairs to sleep in her unused bed. it's a little funny to come home and not know where to put my suitcases. usually, i would take them into my room, but i figured that it wouldn't be a big deal, so i just left them in the foyer until i find a place to put them. yay for infrequent visits home.
anywho, it's 8:26 a.m. sunday morning, and i'm awake. call me crazy because i'm never awake this early on my own. i've been up for about an hour now, and i helped my dad tend to the garden. o'ahu is experiencing a drought, and i can tell that it's serious just by looking at the plants. the weather here is definitely the opposite of the weather in boston. but i do have tradewinds, so i'm not complaining.
well, that's the mini-update for now; i'll be sure to keep track of my adventures at home while i'm home. hooray for being home.
now, back to the conclusion of one hundred years of solitude. it's taken almost an entire summer, but i'm nearly there.
my family got a new color printer. sweet.

tired thursday
it's 4:29 p.m., thursday, august 7 here in boston, and i'm trying to remain awake for the last half hour of work. it's been a really slow day in the office: alison and anne spearheaded a mass-cleaning project this morning from 10-11, and then, well, that's pretty much it. each of us have been doing individual tasks, reading, playing games online, or working on other projects. all in all, today was slow. the highlight was a carvel birthday cake for jeff (his birthday is next week friday, but he'll be on vacation). alison and i went to t. anthony's for lunch....mmm....pizza and mozzarella sticks.
for the past half hour, i've tried to finish one hundred years of solitude, but i've been dozing off, so i decided that blogging would keep me busy and awake. hooray for blogging. we do have one more summer league ultimate game tonight, but i'm kind of tired and i'm not in the mood to play and get bit by mean new england bugs (my bites itch a lot). i do have to marinade mochiko chicken for our office potluck tomorrow, so i guess that will keep me awake for a bit tonight. other than that, i plan to clean up the apartment and pack for my trip home on saturday morning. that's my agenda for tonight.
oh, so i should probably mention steve's visit to boston. well, it went okay; not as i expected, but whatever, i'll live. we hung out monday night when they arrived, and then steve and i had lunch at university grille on tuesday; we had a summer league game on tuesday evening (which we won), and then we returned to 509 to clean up and plan to eat. steve wasn't feeling well, so we just hung out at the apartment. some of his camp gang came down to boston, and they planned to drink and hang out. unfortunately, i wasn't completely aware of this plan, so instead of eating dinner, he left and hung out with his camp friends. so, i went to sleep disappointed and hungry. oh well, such is life. yesterday, he hung out with his friends down on newbury street, and then went to the red sox game with them. i decided not to go because i didn't feel like it, and that he had planned to go with them. it wasn't a big deal; i went over to 1307 to have dinner with mike and rosie, and hang out for a bit before i had to go back to 509 so steve could pick up his stuff that was in the apartment. we talked about the situation with the visit, and i told him that i was a little frustrated, but, whatever. sometimes i feel like i need to have friends outside of ultimate (which i do now....yay sapa's) because i've limited myself to that one crowd. but i've also realized that i like the time i have to myself because i have time to think about things that i usually don't have time to think about. yeah, that was probably a vague comment, but i'm feeling a little blah about the past two days, and i should really get over it. anywho, that was his visit. i'm really glad that i got to see him, but i am sad that we didn't get to talk more. oh well. i'm going to stop thinking about it because i'm being selfish. boo for me being selfish.
well, it's almost time for me to leave the office, so i'm going to stop here. more blogging to come at some point tonight.
yay for a clean office.

courage/confidence
well, it's 2:03 p.m., wednesday, august 6. i'm in the office chillin' like a villain for the rest of the afternoon because i finished my tasks for today. i've put off calling banks around boston to ask if they wanted to participate in our banking workshops during our orientation for international students in two weeks. i've been thinking about what i wanted to say on the phone for two days, and it's been a little nerve-wrecking. i don't like to call business/banks/professional offices because they intimidate me, and i don't feel confident speaking on the phone with businesspeople. another thing i need to work on. but it had to get done before i go on vacation, so this was the day. it took me a little over an hour to call the banks, and everyone i spoke with was really nice. a big relief to get that off my to-do list.
i picked up food from mango, a thai restaurant across from com, for lunch today. it was yummy. now, i'm stuffed. hooray. i also picked up a pair of boston university shorts for ko from barnes and noble. that was fun. yeah, that's what i did on my lunch break.
i guess that's all i wanted to say; i'm just glad i made those phone calls.
woo hoo for random blogs.

friends are here! hooray!
hooray for friends who visit! steve (who's known as junior at camp), steve magnusson, and caitlin arrived in boston last night for their double-day off from work at camp. they're in west ossipee, new hampshire doing camp stuff and enjoying the outdoors (i think).
i'm still at work, however, and will be here for another hour or so, and then i'm off to another summer league ultimate game. today's game is in braintree against woods hole. we've played them a few times in the past two years and have had great games against them. hopefully the weather will remain nice and we will get to play.
on a random note, the weather here has been pretty miserable over the past few days. it's rained a lot, and has been a bit humid. i hope the weather back home will be a bit nicer than this. speaking of which, i have decided to visit home during my week off. i will be in hawaii from saturday, august 9 to friday, august 15. it'll be a nice break from boston, and i will be able to see my family and some of my friends. and of course, i will eat. a lot. hopefully not too much, though. hee hee.
well, i'm going to finish this random blog and finish the one i was working on last week. yups. that's it.

session 7....it's come, it's gone, and we're done!....for now
wow. i don't know what to think. session 7 is officially done. not to be nostalgic/cheesy/whatever, but it seems like it was yesterday that we began this crazy journey called academic orientation 2003. from sargent camp training in march, to public speaking training in april, then to office training in may, and finally to sapa training in june when we excitedly anticipated the arrival of incoming freshmen and their parents. seven sessions have come and gone, and with every week came new challenges, new students, new parents, and new successes....every week was unique, and we each were able to establish relationships with the students and their families. i've learned so much about my patience, my pride, among other personal qualities, and i've realized that i need to work on a lot of them. i'm going to make a conscious effort to do it, and it would be nice for anyone who sees room for improvement to mention it to me. thanks. other than that, i've had a most enjoyable summer so far, and i look forward to the next two weeks as a cool-down before the international students arrive in three weeks.
the orientation staff had its annual "end-of-summer" banquet this afternoon after session ended. the pa's (us) made a 10-minute video that parodied "e-true hollywood stories"....just the lives of the pa's in the office. it was really funny, and maria and melissa did an awesome job editing the video. i think that we did a great job even though we filmed it in one day, and i had a great time. the sa's gave the pa's signed thank you cards and orientation t-shirts, and the student staff gave the senior staff gifts. we were all finally able to let loose and enjoy the good times we've shared over the summer.
after the banquet, the pa's had to report back to the office, where we had an office toast/mini-celebration of sorts. it's been an amazing summer in the office, and i am very grateful for the opportunity to work with others who are so efficient and dedicated to the task. i've enjoyed working with others who also take pride in their work and do it well. hooray for people like that. anywho, i was in charge of staying 'til 6, so i did and played family feud and other random online games.
after i left the office, i returned to 509 to chill for a bit and then went out to dinner with some of the sapa's. we went to anna's taqueria on beacon, and had ourselves burritos and chips and salsa. it was my first meal out with the sapa's and it was great. i'm really sorry that i didn't hang out with them more this summer because i had a great time with them. when we returned from anna's, some of us decided to hang out and watch a movie. clark, giovanna, ido (at times), mike myers (at times), jeff (at times), kara, mike perreira, and alex watched "zoolander" on a 27-inch tv in clark, ido, tim, and gordon's room. it was a great way to end a very crazy summer. after the movie, i went back to my room and went to sleep. yay for sleep.
four days later (i'm finishing this on tuesday, august 5), i'm back in the office doing stuff for ofis (orientation for international students), cleaning up, and chillin'. it's nice. maria and melissa are on break this week, so there's a big group in the office this week hanging out, and we've had a great two days so far. things are winding down, and it's nice to not have the phones ringing off the hook. hooray for phones not ringing.
well, i think this wraps up this post about orientation. time to....chill and relax before ultimate. hooray.
orientation....what an experience.
