so, i'm getting pretty good at blogging once a month at nearly the exact same time. right now, i'm multitasking with my japanese oral exam prep, chatting with my sister online, and writing this. let's see how much later i'm going to bed after finishing all three of these tasks.
anywho, it's december. the 14th to be exact. classes finished yesterday, and finals begin on thursday. i don't have a final until saturday, but until then, i have tons and tons of work to do. a 10-page paper is due next monday by noon, and i have a number of assignments to complete for japanese class. this week is not going to be pretty.
other than that, the semester is over, and i'll be home in 8 days. i'm really excited to get out of here and back to the islands where i can relax and forget about all the things i do here in boston.
....random interjection: lori is going to sleep, so we can take the second thing off that list.
the end of the semester is always a rough time for me. i'm exhausted after going on and on for nearly 11 months straight, and i always look forward to december because the holidays are here, and i go home and celebrate them with the family. i'm not looking to be social at all because i do need "me" time to just veg out and reflect on all the things i've done over the year. and it's also the time of year that steve and i get into a fight. we've managed to do that for the past three years now (excluding freshmen year), and it never ends on a good note. most of that is probably my fault, but i can't keep my guard up all year round; i need a break, and december is a good time for it.
december is the one month of the year that i get to be a little selfish and think about myself for once. i don't think i'm selfish during the rest of the year, but if i am, please let me know. and that's the way i am. a lot of people (i can't say everyone) are thinking about themselves during this time of the year, and i like it that way. i'm not saying that i stop thinking about everyone else, but i do start thinking more about myself and what i want to do when i go home. the holidays often get me thinking about my family and friends back home who i haven't seen in a year. i'm also thinking about presents for my friends here that i will bring back in january. it's just that i put myself first this month and hope that steve will be a little more flexible. but, it doesn't work that way. it never works that way. most of the time, steve's frustrated with me because he thinks that i'm running myself into the ground. and i probably am. but i wouldn't want it any other way.
i like december as my "chill out" month. it's a good time. and if everyone is being self-centered for the rest of the year, i can definitely take one month to myself. and that's what i'm going to do. and i hope that my boyfriend will take notice and cater to me a little more. but i'm not going to ask for that because that's ridiculous; he should know me by now, and he should be aware of my moods. and i should be more open to share these moods with him, since they come around once a year.
....random interjection #2: japanese oral exam prep is done....two things down, just one to go!
anywho, that's my rant for tonight. i'd write more, but i really should get to sleep. i'm just a difficult person to get along with, but if you figure it out, you're in for a really good time.
i'm going home in 8 days....

November 12, 2004
i'll be gone 'til november
so....it's been exactly one month since i've written anything here. oops. i should be better at this because it may be the one way i will stay sane until winter break.
ah, let's see....what's happened in the last month? (checking last blog) okay, i'm back. i guess i left off at the "beginning-of-the-semester" party, and brute squad was going to nationals, and the red sox were still in the alcs. i'll go through those simple things because it'll be easy to recall. first, the red sox won the alcs by winning four straight to upset the yankees. then they went on to sweep the st. louis cardinals, 4-0, to win its first world championship since 1918. no joke. it was amazing. however, i was in sarasota watching game four of the world series instead of in boston celebrating like the crazy boston people do. hooray.
segue into the next topic....yes, i was in florida when the red sox won the world series. brute squad was settling in for the night to get ready for the first day of nationals. we, what i like to call it, pulled a "red sox" over the three days we were there. we went 0-3 on day 1, with losses to prime (world champs), backhoe (not-so-pleasant women from nc), and zanzara (our new friends from texas). it was a tough day because we not only lost those three games, but we lost erin to a torn mcl as well. boo. the second and third day had us playing for the 9-16 spots. on friday, we went 2-0 against electric mayhem (ny/nj) and nemesis (chicago). that was a good day. we cleaned up our game a whole heap and played better ultimate....yups, that simple. with two wins on friday, we were guaranteed to finish no higher than 9th and no lower than 12th. and we made it our mission to work for that 9th place finish. saturday was crazy, now that i'm thinking about it. we played two games. yups, two. and it felt like we played three or four. seriously. our first game was one of the two "semis" (games to go to the 9/10 game), and we were matched up against bnogo (dc). we've played them four times this season, and, at that time, we were 2-2. so, we knew this was going to be a dogfight. unless we gave it away like we did on thursday. we had a few slipups in the beginning, and we were slow to come out of the gates. they took half 8-6 or something like that and we knew that it was now or never. the game proceeded as it did in the first half, and we were unable to get the breaks we needed. and we played really long points. so, as it happened all tournament, our game was capped. bnogo was up 12-11; game to 14. i think we got the disc after they scored to go ahead, and unfortunately, we turned it over and they scored....again. so, it's 13-11, game point for bnogo, and brute squad with their backs against the wall. nothing unfamiliar for us (we practiced a lot of come-from-behind scenarios during practices), and we managed to play patient brute ultimate, and scored the next point. 13-12, game point still to bnogo. and they were receiving the disc this time. lots of pressure on the defense to play solid and clean. once again, the team stepped up to the challenge, played superb defense, and got a turnover with a score. 13-13. universe point. double-game point. whatever you want to call it. the sidelines were getting crazy (and by sidelines i meant the brute boyz were dancing and cheering all over the place), the seven of us on the line (me, rebecca, kathy, chrissy, atong, nancy, and alison) could taste it. bnogo was on their line freaking out. and we were just waiting to pounce on them.
so the pull begins this last point of the game. the brutes are on defense, and boy, were we on defense. we played tight man-d the entire point, and we could see how much we were wearing bnogo down. early in the point, we were causing turnovers on our half of the field. but as the point continued, we pushed them back into their half and caused a lot of turnovers. initially, we had a few easy chances to score, but because i got a little excited, i threw a couple away. but, as dan said from the sidelines, "we're winning brutes, we're winnning. you don't know that yet, but we are." we had their backs to their end lines for the last 10 minutes (or however long that was) of the point. yes, we'd turn the disc over, but they would turn it over in the next two passes. everyone stepped up her defense, and made it really difficult for bnogo to get their throws off. kathy had a great mark on her offensive player, and that made it a lot easier for us to match up on our women. i'm not sure who threw the last point (i think it might have been chrissy or nancy), but rebecca caught it in the back of our endzone for the game-winning point. it was amazing. and only our first game of the day. we still had to play safari, the ucsd club team, for 9th place. honestly, i was exhausted after that game. i really didn't want to play anymore. but we had come so far, that it was time to finish it off. short summary of the game: we won. brutes finish 9th, and it's time for us to party!
we spent the rest of the weekend hanging out and enjoying the wonderful sarasota weather. we also watched the men's and women's finals. sockeye beat jam, and riot beat prime. hooray for the end of another club season with brute squad. it was definitely a more stressful season for me, with the stresses of college ultimate lurking every other moment i was not practicing with the brutes, but it was really a struggle to get myself motivated to practice. my body was pooped. and it is really pooped now. but a couple of months should do it, and i will be ready to run my butt off when we start track practices in january.
so, i've finished the october recap. hooray. oh, i did forget to mention that i did no such homework during the month of october due to the red sox. i blame them. just kidding.
anywho, it's november now. the 12th to be exact. and it snowed today. i'm serious. winter is officially more than a month away, and we had snow today. it was pretty....until it turned into frozen rain. then it wasn't so pretty. i think i just bombed my second latin exam, and i've got a presentation to work on for monday (japanese literature). there's lots of work to do, and i've got to get my ass in gear to get shit done. word.
this weekend should do it, though. no ultimate frisbee tournament or practice, and i have lots of time to get my work done. i'm shooting a package tomorrow for newsroom on tuesday; then i'll probably spend the rest of the afternoon cleaning my room and the apartment. at night, i'll probably get to my homework and some movie-watching, and then on sunday, i'll go to the souvenir store and put a few hours in, play some floor hockey (playoffs!), compete in a poker tournament, and then finish the night off with more homework. i better be productive this weekend.
....and breathe. that's what i've been up to in the last month. exciting, eh? but i did forget to mention that my computer died about three weeks ago (freakin' motherboard got the best of my 'puter), so i'm waiting for my brand-new dell inspiron to arrive....next week thursday. honestly, these past three weeks have been the most frustrating three weeks of my life. i'm not kidding. not having a computer has made it more difficult to get anything done without having to walk to campus to work on a computer in a computer lab. gah. but, it'll be here soon enough; i'm not worried. remember this date: november 18. my computer will finally be here. hooray!
okay, i've written way too much for tonight. it's been 42 minutes since i started, and my fingers are really cold.
yay for a not-busy weekend.

October 13, 2004
it's the middle of october....geez
october 13 is here. wow. well, i haven't blogged in a while, and since i don't feel like doing homework just yet, i guess it's time to elaborate on all the things i said i'd write more a few months ago. where exactly do i begin, though?
ah yes, just checked my last blog from three weeks ago....so, what have i been up to since then? well, i'm still in school working my butt off, i'm still playing ultimate (wouldn't give that up for the world at this point), i go to reebok every thursday, and i'm still working on finding time to work this semester. i did go in yesterday (columbus day) for eight hours....yay for time-and-a-half. the red sox are in the alcs this week, and they return home for games three through five on friday. tonight, they played the yankees in the bronx and lost 10-7. it could have been worse, though, and their near-comeback makes me excited for game two at 8 p.m.....tonight. hee hee, that's funny, because it is wednesday already. other than the random appearance at work, things have been the same since i last wrote.
the latest, though: brute squad is going to nationals again! regionals took place this past weekend, and brute squad finished second to lady godiva. it was an amazing weekend with awesome ultimate, gorgeous fall weather, and lots of support from teammates and friends. nationals will be in sarasota, florida from october 28-31....and this time, i'm 21! we have two and a half more weeks to get ready for another opportunity to make a statement at nationals, and i think our team is much stronger this time around. exciting!
more of the latest: lori's at redlands this fall for her first semester of college, and she's playing volleyball. i haven't heard from her in a while, but at least it keeps her mind off of missing her boyfriend back home. i know that home is awesome and all, but seriously, if you don't make the most of your time away from home, you really won't appreciate all of it when you return for those winter and summer vacations. that's my random rant for the day.
another update (i guess i do have a lot to share): my dad and grandma are coming to boston in may for my graduation! the hotel rooms are booked (on my credit card), and they will be here from may 19-24, 2005. on the way home, we're going to las vegas for a couple of days, and then we'll be home just in time to see brad graduate from kamehameha. i don't plan to be home for good, so the job search begins as soon as i figure out what i want to do with my life after graduation....which should be soon. yeah, i'm graduating again....from college this time. geez.
i guess i should get to the gossipy-type stuff, since i've managed to stay away from blogging about it for a while now....besides school, ultimate, and the reebok internship, i manage to have a relationship. wow, does that sound so....unexciting. but it is. steve and i are still together, and it's still a work-in-progress. i don't mean that in a bad way; i'm just saying that things can be better between us, and we're working at it. i've realized why we're still together, and how important he is to me, and i'm trying to work on the little things that may not be as helpful to the relationship as they should be. in turn, though, i'm also trying to make him figure out the little things that he needs to improve on in our relationship as well. this time around has been a two-way relationship, rather than a one-way relationship (as it was in the past). i think things are good, and i hope that he agrees. we're there for each other when things get tough, and i know that being able to talk with him really makes my day. for me, it's all about the little things.
okay, so i've been multitasking since i started to blog, so i think i'm going to cut it here. i know i wanted to write about one more thing....oh, wait, here it is:
the ozone pilots had its first gathering on sunday evening after regionals. we had a really nice turnout for a three-day weekend, with a good number of veterans, returnees, and members of slow white. i teamed up with lindsey for beirut/beer pong (not sure which term to use here), and we lost to teddy and jake (slow white member/roger williams folk) by two cups. many of our rookies came to this gathering and phil and adrienne were in charge of discovering the gossip behind our newbies. after all was said and done, adrienne had a body pillow covering herself, and a few of the guys and girls swapped clothing. i did not partake in any of these festivities, but i was part of the contingent that took piper out for her 21st birthday. erin hyde and sean laing blessed us with their presence, and we managed to get to two bars before closing on sunday night. steve and i stayed with the group until they went to our house, and we attempted to return to hang out with the gang until we discovered that the party had been busted because of noise. thank goodness jasper and magnusson didn't get arrested again. so, we ran into the under-21 crowd in front of natalie's pizza in allston and walked back to campus with most of them. we arrived at adrienne's to hang out for a bit, but that didn't work as well as we thought, so it was time to call it a night. i'm really sorry that i didn't get to hang out with the gang more, but until i return from nationals, hanging out will be at a minimum.
okay, i think that's it for now. time for me to get back to....school stuff mixed with ultimate stuff.
go red sox, go!

September 23, 2004
senior year is in full swing!
well, well, it's been over three weeks since i last blogged, and that's probably a result of me being super busy. september 1-6 brought on orientation session 8/orientation for international students/parents' convocation/matriculation/splash; september 7 was the first day of classes....and it's been all downhill since then. i've managed to stay on top of things with school, but it's pretty crazy with japanese, latin, and broadcast classes keeping my schedule lively and hectic.
besides being in school, i'm still playing with brute squad, and bu ultimate started up last week. from september 10-12, i was in chicago playing at the heavyweight tournament; brute squad finished second to bnogo. then i came back to boston to start up ozone pilots ultimate: we've had four practices since last tuesday, and the lady pilots are playing at yale's coffee cup on sunday. this past sunday, brute squad competed in club sectionals, where we came in second to lady godiva. it wasn't a close game, but we didn't bring our best to the field. i know we can do it; i feel it. brute squad has three practices a week (thursday nights, saturday and sunday mornings), and the ozone pilots practice three times a week as well (monday, wednesday, and friday afternoons). it's been a little overwhelming for me, and i'm not sure if i'll be able to make it through the next couple of weeks. regionals will take place on october 10-11 at devens, and we hope to qualify for nationals again this year. go brutes!
so, as i mentioned before (i think), i'm not working at orientation this year. i got an advertising internship with reebok (thanks to nick fisher), and today is my first day. i'm actually at reebok right now, in between a mini-project and lunch with kree. i attempted to create a tagline for a holiday print ad....we'll see if that flies. i have my own cubicle (with decorations to come), complete with a computer, telephone, and shelves. i've already been in a meeting this morning, and i will be in one later this afternoon; so far, things aren't dull here. my supervisor isn't in today, so i'm just doing any work that anyone needs to do, and wandering around the building. i should mention that i'm at reebok headquarters in canton, ma, which is 30 minutes south of boston. yes, i don't have a car, but i do have friends who work at reebok, so that makes this internship possible. i am carpooling with kree to and from reebok every thursday, so i'm really excited. she is an awesome and inspirational person, and i hope to one day be as awesome as her.
i guess that wraps up what i am doing this semester. work should fit in there at some point, but i'm not quite sure where. we'll see how that goes. anywho, it's time for me to meet kree, so i'll end it here. hooray for lunch!
autumn is here.

besides being in school, i'm still playing with brute squad, and bu ultimate started up last week. from september 10-12, i was in chicago playing at the heavyweight tournament; brute squad finished second to bnogo. then i came back to boston to start up ozone pilots ultimate: we've had four practices since last tuesday, and the lady pilots are playing at yale's coffee cup on sunday. this past sunday, brute squad competed in club sectionals, where we came in second to lady godiva. it wasn't a close game, but we didn't bring our best to the field. i know we can do it; i feel it. brute squad has three practices a week (thursday nights, saturday and sunday mornings), and the ozone pilots practice three times a week as well (monday, wednesday, and friday afternoons). it's been a little overwhelming for me, and i'm not sure if i'll be able to make it through the next couple of weeks. regionals will take place on october 10-11 at devens, and we hope to qualify for nationals again this year. go brutes!
so, as i mentioned before (i think), i'm not working at orientation this year. i got an advertising internship with reebok (thanks to nick fisher), and today is my first day. i'm actually at reebok right now, in between a mini-project and lunch with kree. i attempted to create a tagline for a holiday print ad....we'll see if that flies. i have my own cubicle (with decorations to come), complete with a computer, telephone, and shelves. i've already been in a meeting this morning, and i will be in one later this afternoon; so far, things aren't dull here. my supervisor isn't in today, so i'm just doing any work that anyone needs to do, and wandering around the building. i should mention that i'm at reebok headquarters in canton, ma, which is 30 minutes south of boston. yes, i don't have a car, but i do have friends who work at reebok, so that makes this internship possible. i am carpooling with kree to and from reebok every thursday, so i'm really excited. she is an awesome and inspirational person, and i hope to one day be as awesome as her.
i guess that wraps up what i am doing this semester. work should fit in there at some point, but i'm not quite sure where. we'll see how that goes. anywho, it's time for me to meet kree, so i'll end it here. hooray for lunch!
autumn is here.

back to the student village
well, i'm back in the student village for the last year of my undergraduate education. it's nice to finally unpack and make my room home. steve's parents drove the van down on sunday night so we could transport my stuff and make moving that much easier. it was really nice of them, and i enjoyed having an automobile to make one trip to the fuller building parking lot instead of five long walks with a cart full of stuff.
we started cleaning and packing on saturday night after we got home from day one of chowdafest. by the way, slow white and the seven dwarves (steve's mixed club team for the fall....i'll post pictures from the weekend soon enough) came in second....without steve playing. he sprained his pcl (posterior crucial ligament, or something like that) in the last game of summer league last weekend, and is out for a bit. okay, so we started cleaning and packing things up on saturday night because theresa was coming to the apartment on sunday to set up her apartment for the fall. when we returned on sunday night, steve's parents drove the van down to boston and we started loading the van with all of my stuff. fun times. lots of trips down and up the four flights of stairs. but we got 90% of the stuff packed on sunday night, not to mention we did laundry and all that fun stuff.
monday was moving day, and we were officially out of 6 buswell at 9:50 a.m. the best time ever. although we did start moving around 7:45 that morning. we had the van loaded at 9:30, drove it over to the fuller building parking lot, loaded our stuff into carts, watched the moving people load my carts into a moving bin, and returned home to take out the trash and check me out of south. the driving, unloading, and checking out took 20 minutes. i was in shock. and very glad that we started moving early. we then proceeded to find a parking spot near 10 buick so we could unload and unpack the carts. we lucked out, and check-in for 10 buick was nice and happy. hooray.
steve scheduled an academic advising meeting at 11, so we walked down to campus for his appointment, and then caught the t out to perd for rehab. i had rehab for my i-t band (stupid tendonitis) and steve did exercises for his pcl. we had dunkin' donuts for lunch, and he drove me to work. while i worked, steve moved out of 41 ashford and was so awesome to unpack the carts we left in the apartment and set up my bed and my bedroom. anywho, we finished unpacking when i returned, and then unloaded his stuff into my apartment for storage. he went home around 6:45, and i met up with simon to do some grocery shopping at shaw's.
at shaw's simon wouldn't let me buy junk food (but that's okay, i guess), so i purchased carrots, celery, veggie dip, turkey, juice, oil, and eggs, and brownie mix. then piper picked us up and took us back to 10 buick to unload her mattress (for storage as well), and then drove us to simon's apartment on bay state to drop off his groceries. simon and i watched the fysop 15 opening ceremonies with some of the sapa's. after it ended, i walked home with danielle and proceeded to organize the mess that was my stuff. it took my three and a half hours, but i'm mostly unpacked, and just need to fold the shirts and socks that are spread about the living room (they're drying). i'll do that as soon as i'm done here. i crawled into bed around 1:30 a.m. and easily fell asleep.
that was my day of moving and unpacking. and now i'm here in the student village ready for the school year. word.
i also think i've done enough babbling for a while....but i'll be back after session 8 and ofis this week/weekend. 7 days until the start of senior year. exciting.
hooray for a nearly pain-free day of moving.

herb
so, i forgot to mention in the last post (or at least i think i forgot to mention) that i purchased a digital camera last week. it's a canon powershot a75, and its name is herb. danielle named him when he arrived last week friday at the office.
that's how i got the pictures from the summer league tournament. i'm really excited to have herb. i'll be able to document senior year much better. hooray for me (again).
okay, that's all i wanted to say in this post.
hooray for herb!

summer league photos
i just posted the pictures i took at the summer league tournament this weekend. the ozone pilots came in 3/4 in the 4/3 division, which is awesome for the team. it was a successful summer for the pilots, and i can't believe it's all over now.
speaking of "over now", the summer is nearly over, and there's about 14 days left before the first day of classes. we'll welcome a new class of pilots, and a new semester of classes. the summer has gone by pretty quickly, but i'm not complaining.
it's time to move again; 6 days until the final one. i vacuumed the apartment, cleaned the bathroom, and took out the trash. not much to cleaning, but i feel that i accomplished something. hooray for me. theresa's stuff has arrived, so it's time for me to organize my stuff and get it ready to move out.
i think that's it for my random blog tonight. i guess i'll write more later, probably tomorrow at work while i'm trying to....work.
every beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

selfish
i was going to start this post with, "it's friday the 13th" but as i look at the clock on my computer, it's actually 12:06 a.m. saturday, august 14th. friday the 13th has come and gone and so has my week off from orientation. this summer, i decided not to go home during my week off because steve was here for the summer, and i wanted to work to make money for my ultimate expenses this fall.
i'm definitely sure that i didn't go home this week because steve is here. i decided that was the one and only reason i didn't go home while i was showering a few minutes ago. and then i realized i was being selfish....again. man, i'm really good at it. and at the same time, i think i'm doing things for others. how'd this reasoning come about? well....i'm going to do my best to piece it together, but the fact still remains the same, i didn't want to leave steve for a week when i asked him to come to boston for the summer. in my mind, that's just wrong. but, as i thought about this in the shower tonight, i left my family behind....again. lori's leaving for college in 11 days, brad is trying to figure out where he wants to apply to college, my grandparents are always wondering how i'm doing and what i'm up to, and i haven't even been a good friend to my friends back home.
i'm not sure if my family expected me to come home this summer, but it was probably a passing thought in each of their minds. and now that the week has come and gone, i was selfish and i should have gone home. just to make the transition for lori as easy as an older sister could make it. just to sit down and talk with brad about the college application process. just to have dinner with my grandparents and have them ask me about my summer in boston and my plans for the school year. just to sit down with my friends and hang out and do what we do best: talk. just to be home and in a place where i don't have to think about anything but being at home. but i didn't go, and it's another four months before i'll see the familiar house again. right now, it's one thing i regret doing, but maybe in a few months, i'll see it in a different light.
enough thinking about it. time to go with the flow. take control of me and do what i know i do best. i really should stop thinking about what others say; it really fucks with me. then again, i let it happen, so it's (once again) in my control. yups, it's time to stop writing and feeling sorry for myself. sleep should let my mind run wild with the thoughts and i should wake up in the morning ready for a new day. okay i'm out.
and on and on it goes.

three months
well, it's been almost three months since i've last posted....that's a long time. three months ago, i was in the midst of the end of my junior year of college: classes, work, and ultimate. since then, i've managed to rid myself of classes until september, and i'm, once again, chillin' in boston for the summer.
this summer has been a letdown of sorts, but i guess it's my attitude that made it a letdown. i enjoy being in boston, i enjoy the freedom from classes, but it's not the same as last summer. last summer was tons of fun, and i enjoyed every bit of it: orientation, the souvenir store, summer league with the ozone pilots, club ultimate with brute squad, and hanging out with friends. i thought that this summer would be amazing since most of the current pilots are in boston and we would hang out a lot. turns out that it hasn't been the case....but i can only control my life and what i want to do with it.
orientation is....interesting. and frustrating. and i've done a really good job of going with the flow and doing my job without stepping on anyone's toes. we have a little over 6 weeks left until this shindig is over, and i can't wait for the end. not to diss the program, but i'm just tired of everything that comes with it, and i need to get out before i go completely nuts. not exactly what i call a restful summer. anywho, it was my choice, and i'm not going to go on complaining because it'll just make things more frustrating for me. oh well. the little things are getting to me, and i really just need to step away from it for a while. and that break comes in three weeks (i think).
ultimate has been a pain. literally. i have beaten and tortured my body with ultimate for the last three years, and i think it's catching up with me. i haven't taken great care of my body, nor have i given it the nourishment it needs to put up with my daily happenings. that said, my body is unhappy. and it's letting me know. boo. i haven't made time to take care of my body, and, at the same time, i'm supposed to get in shape for brute squad. boo for me not taking care of my body. i also think my body is reacting to the psychological stress i encounter on a daily basis at work. i've noticed that my body tenses up while i'm at work. without me doing anything. can you believe that? during the first session of orientation, i couldn't lift anything because my back felt like it was pinching a nerve with every motion. boo. since then, my back hasn't done anything spastic like that, and i'm very lucky. hooray.
ultimate has also brought me tons of happiness as well. in early june, i played with beantown hangout club at mixed easterns and won the tournament. that was awesome. they are a great bunch of people (and very attractive as well), and they were spirited and crazy and fun! bhoc is made up of men who play for twisted metal and women who play for brute squad/umass-amherst. that was an amazing weekend. i also had the chance to hang out with them two weeks later when we went to phoenix landing in cambridge for 80s night. lots of fun with bhoc.
the ozone pilots have also made me happy this summer. we've become a strong team who will be (at least in my mind) a strong contender at the end-of-summer tournament. we have fun, we play well, and then....we play disc golf around campus. i have yet to play with the pilots in a tournament this summer because i played with bhoc and brute squad, but i am looking forward to the tournament in august.
right now, i'm chatting with michael hance, who is at CERN doing lab work and fun physics stuff. if you want to know more about what he's up to, ask him. all i know is that he fixed a fuse that blew out on friday morning and now he's writing an e-mail about power supplies to his colleagues. i haven't chatted with him for a long time....i think it's been a bit over three months. i believe that he is doing well over in europe, and he will be back in the states in a few weeks. he's been there since early may and is doing work in the lab (not sure which lab, though). he's going to watch lance armstrong bike through his city on friday (which i think is pretty awesome). it's been really nice to catch up with him and hear about life in the lab.
anywho, i think i'm going to end it here. i've blabbed enough for now, and i hope to blab more later. have a good night.
it's summer time and the weather's fine.

don't play with the big kids if you don't know all the rules
well, well....i'm back. much sooner than i thought. it's 1:13 a.m. and i just got home from one of the most unproductive days of the semester. i went to class, then to work, and then to one more class....and then i conducted a few interviews for my final project for sports journalism. i'm writing a feature on the red sox team store (formerly known as "the souvenir store"), and i had to start working on it (it's due wednesday at noon). anywho, i gathered a few interviews and worked for a bit before hanging out with steve. we ate dinner with simon at warren (nothing really special....the quality of food at school is on a steep decline), and after dinner steve and i returned to his place to hang out with phil and mackenzie. we played phil's movie board game (which took a while....and wasn't very fun), and then we goofed around on the internet looking at seedings for regionals next weekend. jasper came over around 9 or so (i'm really not sure), and then we started playing poker.
at first, i wasn't going to play because i'm just a rookie, and i really don't know the game that well (which proved to be true again during my last hand of the evening), but steve bought me in for $3 (i didn't have my wallet with me, but not to worry, i found it safe and sound under the pile of clothes on my bed....hooray). i played with the big kids for a good three hours until my ignorance of poker got the best of me. i had $.95 left when we started baseball. for those of you who know baseball, good for you; for those of you who don't, don't worry, you're not missing much. i recommend learning the basic rules of poker and the really simple games before getting yourself into something much more complicated....trust me, i'm looking out for you because no one else will. anywho, i stay in because everyone's checking, and then i get dealt a 3. i pay my $.25 to keep the 3 alive (it's wild), and the next round of dealing, i get another 3. mind you, i had an ace and a queen and a 10 of diamonds to keep me in the game (i was thinking three of a kind....and if you don't know any better, don't worry. again, you're not missing much. for those of you who know what i had, just laugh at me for trying to play with the big kids). after those two rounds, i have $.50 on the table and $.35 left (i think i called the nickel bets that were going around the table at the time). anywho, i go all in thinking that my three aces will beat something (crossing my fingers). and that's when my ignorance got the best of me. i show my hand and say three aces, when in actuality, i had a royal flush. yes, again, i screwed myself over because i don't know what to look for or how to effectively play poker. so, i lose to steve, who has a full house on my missed call. i played poker blind for three hours tonight, with no help what-so-ever, and i can't even get a courtesy call for being a rookie. i'm pissed because i failed to recognize my once-in-a-lifetime hand (next to my ace-high flush that i miscalled during the poker tournament earlier this month), and that i didn't have any help. i had no idea which hands were better than others, and i don't know what to look for when i'm playing something other than five-card stud or draw, or seven-card stud. when wilds and such get involved, i'm screwed. and now i know that i should never play with the big kids again until i know what's going on.
biggest thing that made me mad was the fact that i shouldn't have played in the first place. i was playing with veterans, and even though steve bought me in, i shouldn't have played. i'm not good enough to play with them, and i will never be because i don't think poker is something i need to know to survive. second biggest thing that made me mad was the fact that steve knew that i was a rookie at poker, and pushing me to play with them was not the smartest thing he's done. then again, i shouldn't have agreed to play. in the end, everything that happened to me tonight was my fault because i took the risk and lost big. remind me never to take risks again, okay? i thought that it would make me a stronger person, but i failed to realize that without the knowledge about the risk, it's nearly the same as walking into a dark room filled with bats.
i've taken many risks while being in boston, and i think in the three years i've been here, there has been one person who's looked out for me. out of all the people i've met, and the friendships i've made, there is one person who's helped me find my way. thanks michael. i really appreciate it. i've looked out for so many people since i've been here, and i feel that i've made a positive contribution to their lives. they didn't have to endure the negative consequences of their actions because i warned them. i don't consider it being over-protective, i just think it makes it easier for people to go on with their lives with one less downfall, and if i can be the one to help, then so be it. that's what i enjoy. making sure other people are happy and safe as they make their ways through life. i know i can't protect everyone, but i can do my best to make sure my closest friends don't suffer any unnecessary grief.
i just wish there were a few more people who would look out for me when i'm treading on new ground. i know that it's my journey, but if i had my choice, i would like a few friends along the way to help me find my way. that's why humans are social, right? if we weren't social, we wouldn't be where we are now.
anywho, i figured i'd write after a semi-stressful night. i thought i could make sense of things, but i'm beginning to realize that everything i do, and all the feelings and thoughts i have about others and other situations fall back on me. i can't blame anyone else for my feelings and thoughts, and i should stop looking outward for someone to blame. i need to take responsibility and find a way to get through the hard knocks on my own because it seems that life is a solo journey. it's all about finding your way....on your own. at least for me. but i'll always be there for everyone who's made an impression on me, and if you ever need a friend to talk to, i'll be there. i will never leave you out to dry when i know that there's a path that can lead you on the right track.
i never thought life could be so lonely.

at first, i wasn't going to play because i'm just a rookie, and i really don't know the game that well (which proved to be true again during my last hand of the evening), but steve bought me in for $3 (i didn't have my wallet with me, but not to worry, i found it safe and sound under the pile of clothes on my bed....hooray). i played with the big kids for a good three hours until my ignorance of poker got the best of me. i had $.95 left when we started baseball. for those of you who know baseball, good for you; for those of you who don't, don't worry, you're not missing much. i recommend learning the basic rules of poker and the really simple games before getting yourself into something much more complicated....trust me, i'm looking out for you because no one else will. anywho, i stay in because everyone's checking, and then i get dealt a 3. i pay my $.25 to keep the 3 alive (it's wild), and the next round of dealing, i get another 3. mind you, i had an ace and a queen and a 10 of diamonds to keep me in the game (i was thinking three of a kind....and if you don't know any better, don't worry. again, you're not missing much. for those of you who know what i had, just laugh at me for trying to play with the big kids). after those two rounds, i have $.50 on the table and $.35 left (i think i called the nickel bets that were going around the table at the time). anywho, i go all in thinking that my three aces will beat something (crossing my fingers). and that's when my ignorance got the best of me. i show my hand and say three aces, when in actuality, i had a royal flush. yes, again, i screwed myself over because i don't know what to look for or how to effectively play poker. so, i lose to steve, who has a full house on my missed call. i played poker blind for three hours tonight, with no help what-so-ever, and i can't even get a courtesy call for being a rookie. i'm pissed because i failed to recognize my once-in-a-lifetime hand (next to my ace-high flush that i miscalled during the poker tournament earlier this month), and that i didn't have any help. i had no idea which hands were better than others, and i don't know what to look for when i'm playing something other than five-card stud or draw, or seven-card stud. when wilds and such get involved, i'm screwed. and now i know that i should never play with the big kids again until i know what's going on.
biggest thing that made me mad was the fact that i shouldn't have played in the first place. i was playing with veterans, and even though steve bought me in, i shouldn't have played. i'm not good enough to play with them, and i will never be because i don't think poker is something i need to know to survive. second biggest thing that made me mad was the fact that steve knew that i was a rookie at poker, and pushing me to play with them was not the smartest thing he's done. then again, i shouldn't have agreed to play. in the end, everything that happened to me tonight was my fault because i took the risk and lost big. remind me never to take risks again, okay? i thought that it would make me a stronger person, but i failed to realize that without the knowledge about the risk, it's nearly the same as walking into a dark room filled with bats.
i've taken many risks while being in boston, and i think in the three years i've been here, there has been one person who's looked out for me. out of all the people i've met, and the friendships i've made, there is one person who's helped me find my way. thanks michael. i really appreciate it. i've looked out for so many people since i've been here, and i feel that i've made a positive contribution to their lives. they didn't have to endure the negative consequences of their actions because i warned them. i don't consider it being over-protective, i just think it makes it easier for people to go on with their lives with one less downfall, and if i can be the one to help, then so be it. that's what i enjoy. making sure other people are happy and safe as they make their ways through life. i know i can't protect everyone, but i can do my best to make sure my closest friends don't suffer any unnecessary grief.
i just wish there were a few more people who would look out for me when i'm treading on new ground. i know that it's my journey, but if i had my choice, i would like a few friends along the way to help me find my way. that's why humans are social, right? if we weren't social, we wouldn't be where we are now.
anywho, i figured i'd write after a semi-stressful night. i thought i could make sense of things, but i'm beginning to realize that everything i do, and all the feelings and thoughts i have about others and other situations fall back on me. i can't blame anyone else for my feelings and thoughts, and i should stop looking outward for someone to blame. i need to take responsibility and find a way to get through the hard knocks on my own because it seems that life is a solo journey. it's all about finding your way....on your own. at least for me. but i'll always be there for everyone who's made an impression on me, and if you ever need a friend to talk to, i'll be there. i will never leave you out to dry when i know that there's a path that can lead you on the right track.
i never thought life could be so lonely.

have you ever thought about it?
as i mentioned in the last blog, i was going to listen to more music and think. and i did that. interesting things come to mind when i think for a while.
the one thing i thought about for the last 40 minutes was something i've thought about many times before, but never really acted on: suicide. i've had one close friend commit suicide over a girlfriend two-and-a-half years ago, and every time i think about it, i wonder if he'd ever consider the consequences of his actions. every time i think about it, i think about what would happen to my family, and how messed up i would make things if i ever decided to act upon my thoughts.
this is the first time i've decided to write about it because i wanted to see my thoughts on paper (or on a screen). i want to see the same series of thoughts over and over again to make sure that i'm okay, and to make sure these thoughts are just part of a passing mood.
over the last hour, i've thought about ways to end my life, consequences of ending my life, and thinking about whether it's really worth it. in the "ways to end my life" category, i've come up with the following: overdosing and pulling the trigger on myself. i don't think i'm bold enough to jump off a building or in front of traffic or something like that. in the "consequences of ending my life" category, i've come up with the following: i'd make my family really sad, i'd make my friends (the few i have) sad, i'd cause unnecessary grief to my family and friends, i'd unnecessarily take up more of their time, i'd make my family move all of my stuff back home (or just dump it....my dad and/or lori would decide), i would cause great stress to my family, my life would be over, i wouldn't have to deal with the rest of the world, the rest of the world would go on without me, and, most of all, i'd disappoint everyone (more than i have since my birth). in the "whether it's really worth it" category, i've decided on this: it's the easy way out, and it's not worth it. no matter how much of a possibility i make it, the cons outweigh the pros on this one, and i'll continue to live my life until it's time for my natural exit.
there are times i toy with the idea of suicide. and then i think about what my dad would say if it ever happened....i think it would go along the following: "she took the easy way out. she copped out and didn't take responsibility for her actions. she screwed up and left everyone else to pick up after her. and now she's caused us more problems than we had when she was alive." seriously. no joke. he would say that.
lori would be more of a mess than she is right now, and i couldn't even imagine what she'd do. i'd leave her to deal with the rest of the family on her own, and that's not right. i'm her older sister, and i should be there to listen to her and to help her sort out her problems. that's what an older sister is supposed to do. if i leave her, i'm not sure what will happen to her.
i think i would cause the most grief to my grandparents. they've looked after me as their first grandchild for the past 21 years, and i know it would break their hearts to see me gone. i know that i've got a lot riding on my shoulders; 5,000 miles couldn't shake those expectations off of me. i couldn't even think about disappointing them in the worst possible way. it would be an insult to them.
i wonder if those who've committed suicide ever thought about the consequences of their actions: how much their families and friends would miss them, and how much pain they would cause, to name two such consequences. then again, why should they care about the consequences if all they're thinking about at the time is themselves? i guess that's the one thing we'll never get to ask those who've taken their own lives.
anywho, that's what i thought about in the last hour. hope i don't freak anyone out by posting this. i think it's fair enough for anyone to think about suicide once in a while, as long as they don't act on it before talking with their family and friends about their problems. i don't like to bother people with my problems; i'm sure there are people out there who have it worse than me. i need to get my head on straight and take responsibility instead of leaving everything out for someone else to take care of.
a good way to let it all out.

it's what you make of it
the last friday of the semester has come and gone....and i'm just one day closer to the end of the craziest semester of recent memory. it's been fun, but it could have gone a lot better. oh well. i'll live. if you're lucky.
anywho, i picked up a new pair of cleats today (thanks tom!) with adrienne this afternoon. since it rained this morning, and magazine didn't look playable, practice was cancelled. hooray. after picking up new cleats, i met up with steve on his way out to watertown to pick up his cleats that ups didn't drop off. i returned here, while he caught a ride out with steve (magnusson).
over the last two hours, i've managed to purchase a ticket to the jack johnson concert in september, to check my e-mail, to surf the internet, to listen to norah jones, and to think for a bit. there are lots of thoughts going through my mind at the moment, and i'm not sure what to make of them....so, i'm just going to let them swim through my brain, and maybe i'll make something out of them later. i guess this was coming soon as a culmination of the things i've been doing this semester. i'll deal.
can't believe that it's the end of another school year. good and bad times have come, but i've enjoyed them all. i've learned a lot about myself, and a lot about others that makes me realize that there's more to life than what's in front of you. i've learned that friendships are important, and that my friends back home are the people i can count on to talk to whenever i need to. they've been there for me through thick and thin, and i only wish i could be there in the same way. thousands of miles don't help the situation, but i'll work on it this summer....maybe they'll even come and visit!!!! that would be awesome.
i think this is the second time in the last month or so that i've been in this weird mood. where i feel that i'm in the way of my friends' lives here, and that i really haven't stepped out of my comfort zone to make new friends. where i start to feel sorry for myself as i sit in this room and listen to music and think about life and how much of a failure i am and how much i've let my family down. those thoughts lead me to believe that i should be at home helping my dad keep the situation with my siblings under control, and that my indifference to my purpose in boston is a result of the realization that all i wanted to do after high school was to get out of the house. going to college in boston was the way to go, so i hopped on a plane and moved out. it was a good idea, but i think it may have had bad intentions. i knew that college required a lot more discipline and time management, and i gave into the things that made me happy and didn't require much mental commitment. as a result, my grades fall, and i disappoint all of those who really care about me; i please those who don't know me well, and everything goes to shit. word.
i always tell myself that i'm going to do better next semester. funny times. because i'm only kidding myself. i find myself busy, and i don't mind that, but it's not good for my purpose of being in boston. i'm here to learn, to get an education, to graduate from college with the best grades possible (at least that's what i take from my family), and to secure a job after college. at least that's what's been programmed for me to believe. the more i think about it, the more i'm convinced that i'm doing this just because it's what everyone is doing. i'm not doing my best in school, and i'm wasting my father's time and money and patience. i can't wait to call him and tell him that i'm not going to make the grades and i'm coming home. that's the deal we made in january, and i didn't hold up my end of the deal. fair enough, right?
then i think about what i'm going to do when i get home. i'm not even sure i'm going to go home. i'll probably just drop out of school here (so i don't waste another dime of my dad's money), and work to pay off my student loans, and hopefully save enough so i can take classes at umass-boston or some other state school to finish my degree. i haven't even thought about transfer applications back to uh. hmm, maybe i should do something about that. i don't know. i just want to talk with my dad and figure that stuff out before i make any other "permanent" plans. this is what i get for being so irresponsible. this is my responsibility.
i guess that's it for now. i'm going to think a bit more and listen to more music, and then go to the "slow kids" show tonight. maybe that will make me smile.
going home for good?

and the weekend begins....
so, i disappeared after starting the blog because i started cleaning my room and chatting online. as minutes turned into a few hours, i got wrapped up on reorganizing my cds and listening to my tummy rumble.
steve called in the nick of time, and we met up at betty's wok and noodle on massachusetts and huntington avenues. it had an interesting atmosphere, and the food was pretty good. the weather was decent, so we were able to walk back to campus. and my night ended with good will hunting. yay.
now, i'm reading and watching sesame street. i haven't watched it in a long time, so i better get back it. it's saturday. hooray for saturday morning cartoons and tv shows.
i wish i was playing ultimate this weekend.

finally friday
it's finally friday. thank goodness. i played text twist for an hour and decided that it would be a good time to cach up on the rest of my life in the last few months.
it's been crazy, and good, and i've learned that i enjoy every minute of it. i'll complain about the logistics and the nitty-gritty things, but i realized that it really is what i make of it. i'm working on my personality and the impression i give off to others, but i'm beginning to understand that it's part of the way i work.
i am cold and shy and very closed during an initial meeting with someone because i'm assessing the situation to see if it's really worth contributing to the conversation. sometimes i'll do it just to be friendly, but if i don't think it's worth it, then i won't bother. it may be a bad thing to do, but oh well, that's me. take it or leave it. i'm sure many people have dropped me with my first impression, and that's cool. i don't have to have everyone like me, and i don't have to fit in everywhere. that's another huge revelation that came to me this week.
this week was rough. i made it rough, nonetheless, but my mind was in five different places throughout the week. there were times when i wanted to scream and give the world the stink eye, and there were times when i just wanted to pack up and get out of here. the weather didn't help much: it rained all day wednesday and thursday, and it was very frustrating walking in the rain and trying to figure out why i bend over backwards for people. part of me says it's part of growing up, and another part of me says it's part of who i am. regardless, i know that i'm not completely in control of my life yet, so there are some things that i just have to do and i shouldn't bitch about them.
i also need to remind myself that i can't control everyone. i can only control myself, and if i can't do that, then i should just keep my mouth shut until i gain control. i also need to learn to not be so serious about everything. some criticisms aren't directed towards me, they're shared because others have frustrations that they cannot share with anyone else. once i emotionally remove myself from the situations that don't involve me, i will better deal with them. i'm a very emotional person, and my thoughts often ride on my emotions. i have high expectations of myself and others, and when others have a dissenting opinion, i get riled up when i shouldn't. they have their own opinions, and it's okay. so, i'll work on this for the summer and the rest of my life. i think it'll decrease the stress i give myself.
hooray for friday.

high tide 2004, part 7-back to boston we go
the tournament was over, but our return trip to bosotn was just beginning. time to say goodbye to savannah, and hello to 95. 95 is very very long. virginia is a very big state. i sped, but did not get a ticket. hooray.
subject heading: The Last Deprivation of Sleep
date: Thursday, March 25, 2004 2:23 AM
the e-mail:
"DAY 7
After a delicious breakfast (THANKS, HOLZER!) and the aforementioned syrup-chugging proposition by Sean to Christina, everyone pitched in to clean up said fancy beach condo and headed out to play a little beach frisbee in the sun. The day was the hottest all week, so a few of us braved the frigid Atlantic just to say we did it. Spoony, Beej, Adge, and I all ran in at various times. Beej and Adge did it twice so the sun would seem that much warmer. I don't know if that's safe, but to each his own, eh?
The tournament director had set up a rookie pick up game and an all-star game, so only a few Pilots got to play for real. The rest of us just chilled, tossed a little, and gawked at the guy posing for pictures for his team's "calendar." Three words, guys: Shiny gold thong. GOO!!! haha!
Not a whole lot happened after that, though. The guys left for Terminus in Atlanta and we ladies headed back to our campsite. We were going to make up some smores and swap girly gossip, but we all just passed the fuck out instead. Figured we'd leave the girly gossip for Jasper. haha!
We disassembled camp the way we set it up . . . in the pitch-black dark. F-U-N, fun! Again, Meghann with the mad skillz at the camp directing. We were packed up and on the road by the ass-crack of dawn.
DAY 8
There wasn't a whole lot of stoppage on the way to Philadelphia, except for a quick lunch at a Bojangles for two of the three cars. Our stop included some blatant Northerner activity, such as staring at the menu for about ten minutes as if it were written in code and an amazing display by me, yelling out "Shit!" in the middle of the crowded restaurant as my sweetened iced tea toppled over at the feet of the old ladies sitting next to us while all the jaws of the Little League team across the room dropped upon hearing such offensive slang. WOOPSIES!!
We made it safely into Philly without being shot by any Southern senior citizens nor anyone from the gangs who originally drove the Fresh Prince out of "West Philadelphia." Word.
It was great to see Mike and Tom. They made us a fabulous spread of ham, fillafel, and tasty salad. There was some wine had (mainly by Allison) and a mighty fine rum cake in double celebration of Beth's birthday and our victory.
V. V-I. V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! Hold the V, dot the I, and you better BELIEVE we rocked that C-T-O-R-Y.
Sorry, my mom was a cheerleader . . .
We woke up the next day after tallying points and dozing off to The Big Lebowski to another big meal of french toast, juice, bagels, and I don't even know what else, but I know I went back three times. Mmmm!! We were pumped and rarin' to go by the ass-crack of 1 pm. Sleep is SO nice . . . even if you don't get the bed . . . or the couch. I'm not bitter, I swear.
After that, it was only a matter of about 6 hours to get back to Boston. We all survived each other and our vehicles and arrived safely by about 7 pm.
All right!! I'm done!!! Are you good?? I'm good. I'll be taking recap hiatus for about ten years now. This is and was my opus. I hope you all enjoyed/enjoy/are enjoying it. If you've made it to this point, you're AMAZING!! There will be a secret gift for all of you . . . What that gift is, I have no idea. Sexual favors?? Perhaps I'll direct you to Jeff's mom.

we stopped in philly to visit with tom and mike. it was really nice to see them. mike's doing well, and i'm glad that he's enjoying his life in philly. i didn't get to speak with him much while we were there, but such is life when he's the host of 14 lovely lady pilots. it was a good visit, and i look forward to visiting with mike sometime in the near future.
and here ends the lady ozone pilots high tide 2004 recap. props to piper for writing all of this for the pilots to enjoy. it's a good thing i finished cutting, pasting, and adding my comments to these posts....because it's time for track practice. i'll be back to write more sometime soon. i hope.

"DAY 7
After a delicious breakfast (THANKS, HOLZER!) and the aforementioned syrup-chugging proposition by Sean to Christina, everyone pitched in to clean up said fancy beach condo and headed out to play a little beach frisbee in the sun.

"So, I'm on DAY 6 now. The playoffs.
Wednesday's games left us tired and hungry. Running around all day doesn't seem to work so well on beer and granola bars . . . WEIRD! So, to go along with our Applebee's funtimes the night before, we decided we'd start the day right with a big ol' meal! But where to go?? So many choices!! Do we go to Dunkin' Donuts: a pleasant establishment well known and frequented by the team? Perhaps Starbucks: nationally renowned for cracking folks out on double-shots and frappucino chips? What about some place new: a restaurant never before frequented by the Ozone Pilots tous ensemble. That restaurant: THE WAFFLE HOUSE.
How many ways can hashbrowns be prepared? I still don't know, but Waffle House has a pretty good start . . . Smothered, covered, mashed, trashed, grilled, chilled, filled, dilled, battered, plattered, jellied, steamed, broiled, oven-fresh, poppin'-fresh, pipin'-hot, diced, sliced, quartered, extra-tasty crispy, original recipe, honey roasted, lightly salted, pepper jack, sharp jack, vermont sharp, mild, hot, fire, water, rock, pape– . . . I could go on, but I won't since you probably stopped reading up by "trashed."
Our waitress was a hip, hip chick named Velma or something. There's a picture of her somewhere. She was definitely the most perfect Waffle House maiden we could've asked for. Blonde/grey hair, pushin' 60, and SASSY!! PERFECT! Oh! She was so great that when I rattled off my order of sides (eggs, grits, hasbrowns) . . . and she asked, "How 'bout some meat with thayat?" I couldn't help myself!! I had to order sausage too. There's NO resisting the Waffle House waitress. Lisa downed a BIG fuckin' waffle. I think Erin was suckered into some bacon to add on to her choices. Omelettes were EVERYWHERE . . . and of course, hashbrowns . . . TONS of hashbrowns. But there was one meal that really took the "soul" cake. Rosie's "Grilled Texas Bacon Patty Melt Plate" was by FAR the greasiest, the meatiest, and the meltiest? Yeah, I don't know if Velma was her waitress . . . or Satan.
We stuffed our faces. Then it was ON TO THE FIELDS!!!
Game 8 - Wesleyan A
So, right off the bat, Rosie felt like the "Grilled Texas Bacon Patty Melt Plate" would soon become the "Regurgitated Georgia Pork Ground Beef Cheese Chunk Puke Pile." Not quite as appetizing. Teamwide athleticism was in question. Would we be able to play with the hashbrowns sloshing in our otherwise empty stomachs? Would our quickness be compromised by the added weight of scrambled eggs and cheese? Was Velma actually the devil in a grey/blonde wig with a motherly flare and a sweet southern smile??
Supposedly Wesleyan A had the same experience/talent as Wesleyan B. . . They just mixed the teams equally. Then, judging by our performance, WAFFLE HOUSE IS NEVER A GOOD PLACE TO GO BEFORE DOING ANYTHING AT ALL REMOTELY PHYSICAL BESIDES WALKING TO YOUR CAR, MOVING YOUR ARMS TO DRIVE YOUR ASS HOME, WADDLING INTO YOUR HOUSE, AND MAKING IT AS FAR AS THE COUCH BEFORE PASSING OUT AND SLEEPING OFF WHATEVER SORT OF EVIL, WONDERFUL CONCOCTION YOU JUST CONSUMED. That said, we sucked.
We traded points with these girls all fucking game. BALLS!!! They kept throwing that fucking swilly-ass shit and we had nothing besides grits residue lodged in our teeth. There were some great in-cuts made . . . Mack, Beej, Al, Meghann . . . Those freshmen are HOTTTTT!!! But, sadly, we couldn't pull it all together . . . at least not until Rosie made a sweet catch on the edge of the endzone for a score (controversial to the bitter Wesleyan bench-warmers, but they were too scared to get any closer and actually see Rosie's cleat mark nestled just inside the bounds). That FINALLY put us up by two and we were able to finish that shit within a couple points.
Final: BU, 13 - Wesleyan A, way too close
Game 9 - Michigan State . . . again
Thanks to the fucked-up shit that Syracuse pulled for all the bracketing and whatnot, we ended up playing Michigan State for the semis. They bumped off Notre Dame. WHAAA?? I have NO idea how that happened, but it had something to do with a drastic increase in variety of play thanks to their new (well, new since Tuesday, but not in age) club ringer. She was good. I'll give them that, but still!! We're just too awesome.
Rochester had also beaten Notre Dame earlier in pool play. Something was not right in the cards for that game or something. It's gotta be the fucking hairy armpits. PERSONAL HYGIENE, PEOPLE!! So, I don't know. But we didn't have to play them again.
Personal hygiene was definitely on everyone's side for our second game of the day, though. Our food had settled, the sun had gone down a bit, and even Ariel on MSU pitched in by zesting her armpit with orange peel goodness in lieu of forgotten deodorant (see Allison's snaps).
The variety of their ringer didn't phase us in the least. They still stuck with their ultra-lame offense . . . and their funky zones only worked when I had the disc, in which case a stuff was made followed quickly by a score by my girl. . . . Why, Grits!? Why!?!
**Note to the freshmen: Always blame inanimate objects for your faults. They can't defend themselves. . . They can't do anything for themselves. . . They're inanimate. Get it?**
Back to the game! There was some crazy-ass wind which complimented our 2-3-2 quite nicely. Downwind points were key . . . and they're so much fun! Yahoo! Yahoo for hucks!! Yahoo for school!
All-in-all, good game. Good times.
Final: BU, 13 - Michigan State, 5??? maybe more?
GAME 9 - FINALS!!!! (vs. Edinborough)
Quarters to Semis to next game = Finals. YEA! We made it!! Don't ask me how, but we did. I think we'd all like to thank Track Practice and buy it "a nice, big drink of shake-your-hand."
The game was really a blur of lights, people, "Ozone Pilots" call-and-answer cheers by random groups of spectators, LOTS of drunkenness from our guys (Jeff and Jasper in particular), and A LOT of running.
We pulled out to an amazing four-point lead and maintained that positive attitude throughout the match-up. Points were traded there for awhile, but we held on to our lead . . . even after a 30 MINUTE POINT, which fucking Edinborough ended up winning. Bastards. Their cup did work pretty hard, so I'll give it to 'em. Fake half was called when we thought the game was to 13. So, another point was played when we heard it was to 15. We took it to half. Then, fake cap was called, but that was called off and the dude was like, "Don't worry about it. Game to 13." FUCKIN'-A, GUY! Make up your mind!
When we came back from half, there was some tension. I'm not gonna lie. They were hungry and also very confused as to why they weren't kicking the crap out of us like they had previously. Their stupid male hecklers were back on the opposite sideline trying to get into our heads . . . or our pants, I'm not sure, but the rest of the crowd loved us. The stadium (that's right, stadium . . . not huge, but a stadium nonetheless) rocked with hurrahs for the Ozone Pilots. They absolutely LOVED us!! The whole tournament loved us. Even Edinborough loved us, though they didn't want to admit it. Come on!! How can you not?
Beth was skying people left and right. The disc was there, Beth was there. The disc was here, Beth was here. Anywhere the disc was, Beth was . . . and they tried to put this tiny girl long. She may've been quick, but when Beth was there (and Beth was always there) it was like a midget trying to go up against Shaq. You just don't do that. It's embarrassing . . . and disrespectful of Shaq/Beth. The only time that match-up was interesting was when Beth steamrolled the girl to get the D. Might've been a foul, looked awful, but DAMN! the crowd loved it. The girl I was defending (ya know, the hot one) and I agreed that we wanted NO part of that. Play resumed and the midget was surprisingly unphased.
But the crowd pleasing didn't stop there. Their zone was tough . . . Well, maybe not the whole thing so much as the cup itself. Rosie constantly found herself stuck without much to throw as Christina, Lisa, and my popping started to get predictable. The low din of the crowd started to rise as the masses chanted, "Hammer! Hammer!" A sucker for a little "hip-hip-hooray" in her honor, Rosie hucked that shit . . . not once, but TWICE!!! The first perfectly placed swill landed in the capable and fucking ever-present arms of Beth for a score. The crowd went FUCKIN' NUTS! The second was to a wide-open, deep Meghann who wrapped her hands around that disc and held on tight until the handlers could back her up.
Kris and Rosie were placing those discs in all the right spots, finding and filling the holes like . . . Well, you can fill in your own analogy there. Adrienne and Meghann tag-teamed the deep spots while Chris, Lisa, Erin, and I found holes in the middle. Bridget, Mackenzie, Allison, and Lil' Erin didn't play an awful lot, but their presence on the field was definitely not unappreciated. They were the soul of the team when the times were rough. Their spunk and excitement kept us up through the FUCKIN' 30 MINUTE POINT and all the way out to the end. I know it's usually a TOTAL line of bull shit when people say this, but honestly, the team could NOT have won without you guys.
Holy crap! I'm almost teary-eyed . . . but not really. Anyway, guys, WE WON!! A gorgeous put by Beth to Lisa sealed the deal and secured us the bizarre porthole mirror trophy/plaque thingy. WOOT! WOOT! The day/night was ours!!
PARTY -
Having won the tournament we really could've like partied with anyone we wanted to. We were just that cool. We are like sooooo awesome. Oh my god!! I hope my hair wasn't frizzy at the party because of the humidity. Eww!!
Right . . . So, everyone was really cool afterward and hooked us up with some beer to rehydrate . . . the best way, really. We watched the guys championship game which was FAR less exciting (maybe because we weren't playing), then headed out the the fancy beach condo for some tasty quesadilllas grace à Dan. THANKS AGAIN, DAN!!
Then it was out to find the party. That was rough. Everyone ended up crammed into the tiny Wesleyan house. There wasn't a lot of room, the dance floor was dark, flip-cup was crowded, and Jeff had passed out. "Evil Jen" from UNCG decided the last was the worst crime of the night and proceeded to draw on Jeff's face with a purple Sharpie with encouragement from BU girls who will remain nameless at this time. As Jeff was rousing, I tried to get him to leave before he walked into the big, extra-super-crowded room. . . That did not work out. 5 seconds later, Jeff stumbles into the light and starts drunkenly mingling. It wasn't until a particularly colorful MSU character, Freshman Jason "Smidty," charged through the crowd that anyone had the heart to tell Jeff. Smidty blasts into Jeff's face, "DUDE!! You got shamed!!!" Jeff, a little confused, finally checks out his visage in the mirror across from him and immediately places the blame on poor Bridget who HONESTLY had nothing to do with it. I was told I had failed at my one mission in life which is apparently to protect Jeff's face from being drawn on at all times. Sure, Jeff.
Other's might have more party stories than that (i.e. Evan's dancing and getting punched in the face by some Wesleyan chick), but for me it was back to the fancy condo to pass out in the chair waking up only to Finding Nemo, everyone else getting back at their respective times (3 am, 6 am, 8 am), and finally, Holzer cooking french toast . . . with no shirt on. HOT! haha!
(To Be Continued . . . Just keep thinking of Holzer with no shirt on. I know Spoony loves it.)"
notes on the day: yups, we played under the lights, we partied hard all week, and we won the tournament. my legs were shaking like crazy after it was over, but it was worth it. every point i played since rosie got injured and through her return on thursday was unforgettable. the lady pilots get their first tournament win ever, and we did it as a team. lisa and piper were awesome popping in the zone; meghann and came up with some clutch deep catches and ds; kris, rosie, and christina handled the zone with ease and confidences; erin and bridget played hard during every point they were in, and allison, erin, and mackenzie kept the sidelines kickin' for the two-hour-long game.
we improved so much as a team during the week, and everyone contributed to our success. the guys supported us when the going got tough and when the going was good, and they helped me find the trust that i should have had all along (thanks holzer). it was a great week for us to bond on and off the field, and i'm really excited for the season to come. i've got expectations for us, and i hope that we'll bring the intensity and spirit to each game we play in the next month. it's exciting to think about it. more reflections to come when the recap is complete.
the lady ozone pilots are the 2004 high tide session 2 champs!

notes on the day: yups, we played under the lights, we partied hard all week, and we won the tournament. my legs were shaking like crazy after it was over, but it was worth it. every point i played since rosie got injured and through her return on thursday was unforgettable. the lady pilots get their first tournament win ever, and we did it as a team. lisa and piper were awesome popping in the zone; meghann and came up with some clutch deep catches and ds; kris, rosie, and christina handled the zone with ease and confidences; erin and bridget played hard during every point they were in, and allison, erin, and mackenzie kept the sidelines kickin' for the two-hour-long game.
we improved so much as a team during the week, and everyone contributed to our success. the guys supported us when the going got tough and when the going was good, and they helped me find the trust that i should have had all along (thanks holzer). it was a great week for us to bond on and off the field, and i'm really excited for the season to come. i've got expectations for us, and i hope that we'll bring the intensity and spirit to each game we play in the next month. it's exciting to think about it. more reflections to come when the recap is complete.
the lady ozone pilots are the 2004 high tide session 2 champs!

now we're back to piper and the women's recap. it's day two of the three-day tournament and the lady pilots are 3-1 and doing okay. less me, more piper.

"Or just really didn't read my recap like he claimed he did. Or maybe it was the hot Idaho/Syracuse 3-on-2 action last night that got him confused . . . WHATEVER it was, HE BLEW MY ENDING!!!!! Cocksucker!!
No, I hadn't gotten to the syrup chugging. NO! I wasn't yet able to mention Jeff's birthday. (TUESDAY night, not WEDNESDAY night was the signage/lesbian smack-down party . . . and I was DD for Beth, so Jeff's special day was going to get a mention when the actual day had come!!) AND!!!!! I certainly hadn't yet even MENTIONED that we made it to finals, let alone kicked the shit out of MSU AGAIN, nor Beth's train wreck defensive tactics . . . FUCK! I hadn't even mentioned playing Edinborough the FIRST time. Fuckin'-a, Jeff. Fuckin'-a.
DAY 5 (for those of you NO LONGER in a Math-studying college, there is a total of nine (9) days . . . this is not the end. DEAL! . . . and please take your time reading these, it breaks my heart to hear about people deleting them. I'll try to be briefer.)
Ummm . . . I don't know where I left off. OH! Tuesday night, drunken funtimes, blah, blah, blah.
Wednesday was a nice, late start. We slept in a wee bit and headed over to the fields to kick the crap out of some poor unsuspecting DC combo team.
Game 5 - American/Georgetown Combo Team
I don't really remember much from this game. Was I wasted?? Guys, for real. This is freakin' me out. Zero memory. Oh well. Less for you guys to read. We beat them, I'm sure of that. I'm pretty sure everybody played well . . . except maybe me for lack of coherence. What the fuck? All right. Next!
Final: BU, 13 - AU/Georgetown, somethin'.
Game 6 - Edinborough
So, for some reason, the Lady Pilots have issues with playing teams who are "good." With Rosie sitting out to recupe for playoffs the next day and Kris hobbling around on one good leg and the other lashed together in neoprene, we really didn't know how we would perform. We scored the first point with our signature "someone fuckin' go long" offense. Then, they were like, "Oh HELL no!" They scored . . . a lot. I stepped out for a few points to let someone more apt to the task play for a bit. Erin (the original, not lil' . . . In fact, her new nickname will, from this point on, be "The Original") was all over that cup. She is so the "Monster." Not like Charlize Theron Monster, not at all. . . but more like Sweetums from the Muppets. You KNOW nothin's gettin' around that guy! And he's just so SWEET!! Yea Erin!
But they somehow kept scoring. After too long I leaned over to Lil' Erin and said, "If those tramps score again, we're goin' topless." I don't know why. I'll be the first to admit it was a desperation move, but it was SO painful to see the teammates dragging their feet back to the line, heads down, spirits crushed.
They scored again . . . uhhhhh . . . what??? I had a witness, so I had to follow through. The gals mope back to the line, I put myself back in and yell, "That's it! Shirts off!! Who's with me?" After a few seconds of blank stares and uncertainty, Lisa and Christina eagerly flung their tops to the crowd. The rest followed suit except for Beth – who was reluctant, but then realizing she was likely THE hottest girl at the tournament, stripped down to her sports bra – and Kris Kelly . . . Far too modest, Kris Kelly. You know you bring the hotness . . . and you KNOW Western Illinois boy was CRYING when he got back to the Midwest with no love from his BU babe.
Seven on the line . . . We haven't been doing abs for nothing, ladies! The two belligerent drunkards on the Edinborough sidelines were WAY too excited. So, we're standing and waiting . . . and waiting . . . and then we realize that the hold-up is the fuckin' Edinborough girls calling us out on our red sports bras!! They were wearing red while we had been wearing our bad-ass black, but were then throwing a hissy-fit about mine and Allison's red sports bras. "Are ya fuckin' serious?" was all I could say. Then I gestured to my ass-white belly and said that's all the variance they need. We laughed it off and got ready to run.
THEY STILL WOULDN'T BUDGE!! WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT!?! They were TOTALLY wasting our flavor. Then their belligerents suggested we "take it all off." My response: "NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THAT!" . . . For serious, guys. I saw some topless lady running across the beach in Nice and I don't think I'll ever be the same. GOO!! Then!!! THEN!!! They retaliated with, "Come on! You've got a nice rack!" WHAAAA??? Don't know if I agree, but I'll take the compliment?? My only response to them: "Back pains!"
While the girls on the line and I are carrying on this EXTREMELY intellectual conversation with those dicks, the girls on the sidelines were coming up with solutions! Hells yeah! Adrienne sacrificed her grey bra to cover mine (which was returned to her after the point was over . . . don't worry, she kept her shirt on over there). Allison was given back her jersey for lack of a better fix, but being the ingenious gal she is, she didn't simply put it back on. OH HELL NO!! She just bunched it up and tucked it in around her bra. AMAZING!!
All set. Let's fuckin' play. It was a tough point. There was some laying out, some grass scratches on the belly, but we ended up losing that one too. However, it did pump us up to get back in the game for a few more pretty puts to the endzone. Overall, though, we just weren't mentally up for the challenge.
Final: Edinborough, 13 - BU, something lowish.
Game 7 - Wesleyan B
This team sucked, but for some reason we played down to them a little. We should've kicked the living crap out of them, but for some reason they kept putting up some swilly passes that were as lame as Simon's bulbous knee injury. But, somehow, unlike Simon's giant knee, the passes still worked surprisingly well. That fucking sucked. . . Both things.
Anyway, after awhile we were like, "That's enough. You're done." Beth finally started connecting on her hucks (of which there were A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT OF ATTEMPTS) and we pulled away as if to say, "Why'd you even bother? This is our house!! Step off!!" That is SO totally the game we started with Warren G and "Regulators" too, so we definitely had the "Gangsta Twist" on our side. Word, homies.
Amazing cuts were made by Lil' Erin, Mack, Christina, Lisa (Damn! she was EVERYWHERE!), and Allison, too. Adrienne and Meghann were solidifying their "camp-out long" roles. "The Original" and Bridget rocked the cup like it was their cell-bitch when necessary (if they had had the opportunity, there would've certainly been some ocular-cavity urination . . . So I Married an Axe Murderer?. . . anyone??) and, Kris and Beth . . . although needing a bit of mental recuperation, were still utterly amazing. Rosie's coaching on the sidelines was unbelievably helpful. She definitely kept our heads in the game.
Final: BU, 13 - Wesleyan B, I'mREALLYbadatkeepingtrackofscores.
PARTY -
The night started out with a b-day celebration for Beth at Applebee's (not attended by birthday boy Jeff because he was hoping to get some from the LAME Syracuse girls. . . Sorry, Jeff. I really wish they could've redeemed themselves by partying with you, but they didn't, so they still suck).
Sadly, after that, I did not attend that evening's MSU festivities. I DO know that Jeff had already passed out upstairs and was a total waste for his TRUE birthday night. What sort of dorkass forgets what happened on his birthday?
I did hear some great stories, though, (and see Allison's pictures for some fantastic documentation there) about some freshman downing half a cake, table dancing by Lil' Erin and Kris Kelly, the birth of new nicknames (i.e. Beej), and all-in-all good, drunken mischief.
Evan's boot-and-rally attempt back at the condo was enough entertainment anyone could've possibly needed that night, though. I definitely ended up washing out that bowl at the end of the week. Guys, for real. . . Gross.
We were all back to camp by 4 am-ish, lucky to have another late start the next day at 3 pm. Great stuff!!
Okay, I'm off to bed. No more all-nighters for Piper. That fucked me up. Look forward to the next installment where maybe I'll finish up for real, but I'll at LEAST talk about the good Waffle House (Grilled Texas Bacon Patty Melt Plate anyone?) and fuckin' winning the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT!! Get excited. Are you excited? Okay, that's over-excited. Cool out.
"Nigh-night,

notes on the day: it was a good day for the ladies. rosie didn't play but coached us from the sidelines, everyone did their best to step up, and i'm proud of them. i did get frustrated on wednesday because things weren't going as smooth as i wanted. but the lady pilots were as awesome as always and took my criticisms with grace, and helped me celebrate my birthday in style. turning 21 in georgia was a good idea. i didn't get wasted, i was with my friends, and it was a good time. something happened that shouldn't have, but it's done, and it won't ever happen again.

high tide 2004, intermission-men's recap
i should mention that jeff wrote a recap of the men's spring break in between piper's coverage of day one and day two of the women's tournament. so, i'm going to include it here so i know where the break and the references are when i come back to this in a few months.
no more waiting, here's jeff's recap:
subject heading: breaking my vow of silence - also known as the Spring Break recap
date: Sunday, March 21, 2004 9:13 PM
the e-mail:
"Dear Pilots:
Pipers recap was LONG. I read it all, even the short updates letting us know that she was going to class or using the bathroom, also known as "completely useless information". I learned a lot, from the "theme of the mini-van" to the fact that Shaun totally missed out on a syrup chugging competition with Meghan. I laughed a few times, but mostly I just kept pondering "who is gonna write the guys recap"? Now I may not be as funny as Piper, or as good of a writer, but I figure that my silence has gone on way too long. You see, I hate writing e-mails. They are annoying and impersonal. So I very rarely write them. In fact, the only e-mail I have ever written to the list was to inform everyone that Nickerson was open for practice. I hated writing that e-mail. In any case, since everyone is well aware of my total lack of knowledge about anything having to do with the girls team, I'm going to write a guys-only recap. This isn't to say that no girls will be mentioned (see Meghan-reference above) but don't blame me if I don't know much about the girls games/nightly fun. Another quick disclaimer: this is a recap. I'm not really trying to be overly humorous or detailed, just trying to tell it how I remember it. If you find you don't like it, don't read it.
First things first. The trip down was fun and shitty at the same time. As the other van was making their way into Virginia, our car was just leaving Massachussets. After an extremely informative discussion with Ben's (step)dad about the technical aspects of red sedans, the many uses of wooden blocks, and the fact that my balls would be removed if the radio was turned on, we hit the road for adventure. We drove and drove, thats about it. Jasper can tell you more of the details since he was awake the whole time. When Ben first sent me the e-mail about who would be riding down with him, I was skeptical. After all, Jasper can't drive and Spoony's driving is apparently like Kris Kellys except with a lot less control. However, as it turned out, each member of our car was invaluable. Spoony was a valuable asset to the car, educating us about Radiohead inbetween long snoring sessions. Jasper knew the map so well he never had to look at it during our trip, and could recite the directions with ease. Ben was, as always, a totally reliable driver. I did my best to throw myself into bushes, make fun of spoony, and be obnoxious. In any case, we got there in incredible speed, and I definetly won the bet for what time we would arrive (despite what Jasper or Spoony would say).
Piper did a pretty darn good job going over the hat tournament, so I'll just quickly mention that Petey Pablo was the greatest dog ever. Hands down coolest dog of the week.
Don't remember what we did Monday night, probably because I went to sleep ridiculously early. I did not get the comforts of a van to sleep in on the way down. And despite what Piper may say, sleep is definetly key to performing well!
The guys team had arrived in Georgia with a little unease in our minds. We really needed an anchor, someone to hold us together. To be honest, we weren't sure if we could win alone. So we went where all men go when they are truly lost. To the ancient. From the deepest, most cluttered holes/Kia of Danbury, we danced with the devil and called upon the talents of Shaun Laing. As Peter Reynolds told me before disappearing (this was all in a dream), "[Mike] and I used him three times in twenty years, only when things got totally fucked. Whenever we needed one of our own bumped off, we called this guy in. He had a thing for clipping wise guys, but only one rule: no women, no kids. Believe me, kid, you don't want this guy unless you are one hundred percent sure you need him. He's a fucking monster." Before I start the recap of our exploits, let me just say that my hat is off to this guy for his courage and strength in the face of adversity. The fact that he could die at any moment makes the time he spent with us that much better. Thanks Dad.
Tuesday the guys team got off to the start that we really needed. Western Illinois lined up across from us at the crack of dawn and although we came out a little slow, Ed hucked it to me to score the very first point of the tournament. The flow started slowly, as we got used to playing with each other again. But quite simply, a co-ed team just couldn't really hang with us. Smiles all around and a great way to start the day. 13-0.
Next was Drew. This teams website was completely revamped from last year when we blanked them at Yale, and we weren't sure what to expect. We played some great D, with our speed and intensity starting to show against an all-male opponent. Despite the best efforts of their midget handler with the bowl cut, we romped em. 13-4.
Florida State was the first big test of our young team. DUF had already played some top teams this year, and were highly ranked at both High Tide and Terminus. These guys were also old, and for the most part, old-looking. I'd say Ol' Sea Captain Drew was about fifty-six, Shauns hat-tournament-buddy Dustin was a forty-year-old freshman, Eamon was about the age of Mister Miagi in the first Karate Kid (complete with straw hat), and Boner was twelve. Needless to say their experience was a little daunting. We fought hard with them, and played some of our best ultimate up to that point. We forced a top team into throwaways, and at times our cuts looked unstoppable. But our inability to capitalize on their turnovers came back to haunt us often, and we lost in what I felt was a close game. Besides Jaspers shouting argument with PING visor over whether Shaun's disgusting socks were UNC blue or sky blue, we also had a pretty good time. These guys were pretty cool, but it was still tough to lose. 8-11 bad guys.
Tuesday night was a lot like Monday night - not very memorable. I remember people going to that free beer party, and I think we looked for some kind of exhibition game for a while, then I passed out. But at least I was tanner than Monday.
Wednesday was a rough day. Getting out of bed was not easy. I know the last thing I wanted to do on my 20th birthday was get up at 7 in the morning. Some of us already were feeling the onset of a fatigue that would be around for a while. We were a bit sluggish getting going, and it really showed against Case Western, our first match-up. Our zone o looked like ass, and they scored a bunch of points on us. These guys were really not that good, and a bunch of them wore gloves. To Shaun Laing, thats elementary math. We should have rocked them. We were looking down and out, and the Truman state game was looming. We had watched this army play close against Wesleyan, and thought that would be our toughest of the day. Turns out we were wrong. After closing out Case Western 13-10, capped by some great defensive playing by Holzer and Sullivan, we went right over, cleaned up our act, and took it to Truman State. These fuckers were some big boys, but our offense was running on all cylinders, and our D was pretty damn good too. The top play was definetly Simon's sacrificial lay-out D on the sideline. There were also some consistent ass-kickings happening on offensive cuts and a couple of great hucks by Nate Seagle. Jon-0 also grabbed some stuff out of the air and Ed played good too. We dominated from wire to wire, sending them packing and our confidence sky-high. final? 13-5
We knew JMU was going to be a pretty fun game when we heard they played their final point against Case Western with one guy. Not one man short, but ONE GUY ON THE FIELD. I guess he caused some turnovers, but whatever kind of cracked-out offense he was trying to run musta not been too good. He didn't score, and they got spanked. They wanted to play base-ultimate against us for the game, but we had other aspirations. We were gonna kick their ass, go 3-0 and finally see some of those trunk twists Nate Smith had promised us. So we did. They played shirtless at some points, for some odd reason, but that didn't phase us much. We won, and we were for sure our day was over, 13-4. Nate Smith did some trunk-twists (there are pictures somewhere, I promise) so now I can die a very happy man.
Then tournament director Ed kindly informed us we had yet another game to play. Now don't get me wrong, I really liked Ed, and even when he called me a dumb drunk at the men's final, he totally redeemed himself by apologizing. Again and again. But this move got me pissed. Why he had to go all resident assmonkey on us, and make us put lunch off for another hour and a half to go kick Wentworths sorry ass is beyond me. But we did it anyway, because we're a team of destiny. And thats what you do when you are a team of destiny. You kick some scrawny guys asses in a dimly lit bar on a remote part of Thailand (cue Jean-Claude Van Damme in "the kickboxer"). But we were neither drunk, nor suffering from serious HP-syndrome, so we let them score a point. The first point. Some of their young gunz starting getting the idea that they were going to win, or even score again, but their really old handler who looked a lot like Del's dad said it best when he said "We're just gonna try and have fun". They never scored again and we won, 13-1. Now we were in something like seventh place overall, and were set to play our tournament rivals FSU for a spot in the semis. We now had a legitimate shot at the title, much like Jean Claude after he fuckin killed the huge German dude in "the kickboxer".
Wednesday night I remember. After all, it was my birthday (thanks Pipes for remembering) along with Beths. We went to the MSU house and got tatooed, we watched little Erin and Bridget hit on guys, it was a lot of fun. The girls from the mini-van apparently told nate smith he wasn't living up to what they had thought was sketchiness, so he went and had his ass signed by some drunk girl whose size and wrestling ability will be commented on below. Anyways we were all pretty tired and knew that Thursday was going to be a real test of our legs, so we started to leave. Thats when all hell broke lose. Steve and Beth disappeared, and quite possibly the tops of my entire life was the scene outside, with the girl projectile vomiting while those two chicks beat the bejesus out of each other. I will now indulge you all to the closest possible detail the battle royale that unfolded. At first, the ladies were just playing around, wrestling for no apparent reason. Then, one of the girls, the one who was scribbling "lkasgkdf" on everyones bodies all night, elbowed her counterpart across the nose. Oh snap. You do NOT want to feed the bears here people. But this girl learned her lesson the tough way. Arms and legs went flying At one point, the decidedly larger girl was straddling the smaller one, who was on her belly in the grass. The Big Girl then grabbed the Lesser Girl (not little or small by any means, and definetly able to handle me, Simon, and Sullivan at once) by the face baby-Alien style and bellowed "You're done, Bitch!" and slammed her face into the mud. That was SWEET. I squealed like a little girl next to Seagle and Sammy for like an hour while Jasper bitched in the van, completely oblivious to the fact that this was the greatest thing to happen all week. When my mom called me the next morning to wish me happy birthday, the first words out of my mouth were "Mom, you totally missed these two drunk bitches knockin each other around, it was awesome". She expressed concern at the fact that Bens mom hadn't stopped calling the house, leaving messages of undying love for me on our machine, and also worried I wasn't wearing enough sun screen. She informed me that if I didn't put on sunscreen, I wasn't going to win. So I double coated and got ready to play on Thursday.
Thursday was a gorgeous day. Not a cloud in the sky, all morning to just relax, it was perfect. We should have known that the late afternoon start would do us no good. After watching Sports Center and Tracy McGrady score over, and over, and over again, we got down to business. We came out lightening quick again FSU, forcing early turnovers and burning them deep. We got up to a 2-0 lead and looked unstoppable. Then somebody fucked up and let ol brick hands on the field. Sean dropped a huck when he was soo open that the tournament directors came to the conclusion that we would have to forfeit the game. No seriously though. He was SOOO open. But that was one of many mistakes that led to us losing. Jasper through the craziest forehand I have ever seen, their ridiculous calls starting getting us hot under the collar, and general bad luck added up to a shitty second half. Despite the valiant effort of Jasper, Shaun, Nate Seagle, Ed, and Ben, they were seriously less sunburned than we were, so they won in a hotly contested match that involved goal line turnovers for both teams, long upfield marches, and a lot of good old bickering. We gave in to a few days of good ol rest, relaxation, and drinking. We started it off in grand fashion by going to watch the girls game against MSU and totally heckled them into a state of uselessness. The girls at the time were losing something like 11-0, 11-1, something like that. Thanks to dads amazing heckling, the girls came back to win 13-10. How did they lose a point, you ask? Well they were forced to give up a point by TD Ed when a completely debilitated Rosie humiliated them with her defensive play. I also saw some good catches by Lisa and Meghan. That is the type of thing that MUST be commended! No really though, the girls looked real good and spanked a pretty darn good team. Then we watched the FSU vs. Wesleyan game to go to the finals, completely split on who to vote for. On one hand, FSU had beaten us, and it would look better for them to win. Also Wesleyan are a bunch of dicks. But on the other hand, Wesleyan are a bunch of dicks who are funny and obnoxious, AND they are the only team to beat Brown that has a midget on their roster, full time. Does he play, you ask? Well he made a fantastic luck-of-the-irish catch when his teammate bobbled it and it looked almost like it might fall on the ground....but noo, his short stature came in handy as he snagged the disc from off his curly-toed shoes (thats right, all midgets wear shoes like those immigrant kids who work at the north pole). There were some great arguments, and a bunch of kids who have never played a single point for Wesleyan ran around all willy nilly. Wesleyan won and advanced to the finals.
The girls finals were that night, and they were fun. The girls won, and Piper's recap is pretty much enough, except that it leaves out the fact that Beth put a Terry Tate office linebackerish hurtin on that slut team. Pretty much every huck of theirs disappeared into a asian-hawaiian infused abyss. Those flowery shorts that are her trademark were in many a girls face as their ass got sky'd. Now if only Beth would trashtalk a little more...something like "I'm from wanna-fucka-laya-the-smacka-down-on-your-candy-ass Island BITCH!". Maybe I just want to live vicariously through Beth. Maybe I was just drunk at the game. Rosie, Kris Kelley, and Christina also had a whole section of fans in the upper deck going "ooohh" "ahhh" and "show us your titties!". I think that last one was really just Boner. In other, less pertinent news, Wesleyan woompdy wompdied Scooby Dooms dumbass to win the mens final. Yay! Chicken Quesadillias!
Thursday night we got real drunk, I'm pretty sure people puked, it was sweet. Some girl drew on me, which was awesome. Beth knew her too, and totally congratulated her on friday at the all star game. Punks. Friday was also a great day to get sunburned as all hell and eat good food.
High Tide was a great time, I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Many thanks to Dan Jobbins, Nate Seagle, and Matt Holzer for their cooking, everyone for their cleaning, and Jasper for his incredible ability to pass out ice cold, anytime. Top moments were Holzer and Rosies drunken debauchery, Evan puking from between his fingers, the MSU girls fighting (see way above), chicken quesadillias, Hunter's drunken cheering, Ben NOT talking to Marina on the phone the whole damn time, and Dad. Nuff said. When it was all over we climbed into the van and headed for the ATL. That night the Michigan State girls, the Syracuse chicks, the Notre Dame hotties, and the Slut team...well, sluts got together and looked everywhere for us, hearing we were the hottest and best partying team in the land. Piper met up with them, and, with her normal wit, quipped, "these guys are long gone by now...your best bet would be to put a potato on the end of a string and drag it through South Boston, thanks for comin out" (thats two Boondock Saints references in one ridiculously long email, I know...so sue me). We of course responded in our own way with "some great homecooked Italian food would probably work better"
but thats another story for another email. I'll leave the Terminus recap for another day, or maybe someone else. Thanks for actually reading all of this, I'd be real impressed if you did. In the end, I think this may be longer than Pipers...rock on.

no more waiting, here's jeff's recap:
subject heading: breaking my vow of silence - also known as the Spring Break recap
date: Sunday, March 21, 2004 9:13 PM
