it's 4:19 p.m., thursday, july 3....41 minutes before i'm done with work for the week. i figured that i could share the rest of my job here at the orientation office in the next few minutes, so here it goes:
i've told you about being the COM liason, and the parent name tag coordinator, but i haven't told you about faculty check-in at the parent luncheons every week. see, we give parents the opportunity to have lunch with an academic representative from their students' respective colleges. in order for that to happen, we have to get them to come. so, we pay them. $50 a luncheon (for a little over an hour's worth of work). i don't get it. oh well. anywho, every week, i send out memos to the different schools and colleges asking for a certain number of representatives to attend our luncheon that week. when they show up on thursday afternoons, melissa (one of the other PA's) and i check them in (to be sure that they showed up), and assign them to a table of parents. it's a simple job, but i've found that the couple of hours before the luncheon takes place are most hectic for me. i've run up and down stairs from the office to the ballroom to do setup diagrams and make sure the tables are setup with their respective table tents, placards, and centerpieces. all in all, it's interesting to have faculty come and ask us for direction when it's nearly the opposite during the school year. i don't really interact with them, i just find it mind-boggling when they can't follow directions.
now it's 4:35 p.m., and i'm looking around the office for things to do. we've had a pretty easy week in the office: clean-up, prep work for next week, and keeping up with mail, faxes, phone calls, and filing. i think i'm all set for next week except for parent luncheon, which i can't work on until monday anyway. next week is going to be a crazy one. as i mentioned in the last post, we're expecting over 650 students and over 700 parents. it's going to be a great challenge for the orientation staff, especially after a long weekend. it'll be fun, though.
okay, i'm going to stop talking about orientation....there's really nothing more to say except that the staff is awesome, and i've had a blast working with them. yay for orientation.
time to go to the gym before a really fun-filled, food-filled, and ultimate-filled weekend. happy fourth of july.
