talking with my dad

my dad went to work today. good thing today is a wednesday, because wednesdays are his half-days. anywho, i spoke with my dad tonight about visiting home in two weeks and being an r.a. it was nice to reassure myself that the decision i was going to make was going to be the right one for me. it's similar to the crew vs. ultimate decision i made at the beginning of my college career, but with a little more commitment.

my dad reminded me that i enjoy making my own schedule, and i like to have the freedom to come and go as i please. as an r.a., i would have certain responsibilities that would regulate most of my time, and i would possibly have to quit a job that i've acquired in the past year. that wouldn't be good. i really do enjoy what i do, and although i appreciate the opportunity to help out and make a difference in the lives of others, the question is: is that what i really want to do? do i want to turn my schedule upside-down and make things a little more difficult for me? i know that sounds self-centered, but my dad reminded me that i should enjoy my time in college and do the things that make me happy. steve said that too when i asked him about it yesterday. he also said that money isn't the issue here, and that he will support me in my endeavors while i'm in college. basically, he wants me to have fun, and i really appreciate the support he gave me when i spoke with him on the phone. yay for my dad!

i also spoke with my dad about visiting home during my week off from the orientation office. i told him that i'd decide by friday, and let him know. the more and more i think about it, the more i want to go home. but once again, i'm being selfish and letting my teammates down if i do go home. i'd miss a weekend of brute squad practice, and possibly a day of the summer league tournament. i told him about my commitments, and he said something along the lines that could have implied that i should come home because i don't go home as often as everyone else. i don't know. i e-mailed erin and kathy (brute squad captains) about taking that week off, and as soon as i hear from them, i'm going to make my decision. right now, it's 80/20 that i'll go home for a week....i'm getting a little excited about it. but i'm not going to schedule any flights until i'm certain. once again, my dad said that i can goof off all week and do whatever i want (which is unusual for me to hear), and, as long as i take my dad to and from football camp, i can use the van. woo hoo for the van.

i'm really grateful for my dad. he's been there through the good and the bad, and is always supportive of our decisions, just as long as we follow through with them. he speaks through experience, and has learned through our experiences what is good and what is not good for us. he wants us to be happy, and he's worked hard to make sure that we can be happy. thank you dad.

well, i guess that's it for now. session 7 will be in full swing tomorrow....and sooner than i know it, it will be over. and so will july. geez.

one decision down, one to go....hooray.

-me : )
